Security → AVG, NAV, OR PANDA? OTHER?

Please help me choose an av. I run Windows2000 and want to go with ZA, also. Want the most user friendly stuff since I am not familiar with any of these. But I need one quick! Thanks in advance! Karen

Out of those 3 ... I would go with either AVG or Norton 2002.

AVG has a free version ... Norton you have to buy.

Both stay current on updates.

Personally I run Norton 2002 paired with Norton Internet Security 2002 & have NOT regreted running either since the day I installed them.

AVG is free karenlee44, whereas NAV (which I run) comes with a price. I'm not sure about Panda. I have seen good things written about each at one time or another. Perhaps you will find this page helpful.

If you don't want to spend any money, AVG has a good reputation (as a free AV-product). If you want to spend some money, I don't think you can beat NAV. I run NAV on all three of my computers at home: NAV 2002 on two Win98SE systems, and NAV 2001 on a Win95C system. (NAV 2001 was the last version of NAV to run on Win95B and higher).

I'm unfamiliar with Panda, but judging from his posts, I get the impression that Time Out (alias New Years) thinks highly of Panda. Others may be able to comment on Panda. It seems to be a fairly widely recognized name brand. There's also Trend Micro's PC-Cillin, KAV/AVP, and NOD32 -- all very good prospects too.

I personally prefer NAV. A very close 2nd choice would be Kaspersky AV. Too many competitors for 3rd place to even consider.

Well the trouble with opinions are they are just opinions, sometimes NAV works wonderful (like for me) and other times all it does is cause problems for one person. What you are doing with the trial version is a fine idea and probably your best choice. I believe in sort of a three strikes and your out policy in my trials. Then I go on to try another product and then if it works as advertised I may purchase it or if I hear of good things about another product I will try that.

The good thing people were talking about Panda was back when the FBI was applying pressure on American Companies, this is a product of Spain. The good thing about AVG is it is freeware for personal use. The good thing about NAV is the support forum and timely updates. So try them all if you want and find out which is the best for you, I own NAV for myself but setup AVG on my parent's dial-up connection computer when I originally set up their machine for them at their house. I like NAV being on DSL since I think that my computer has a bit more exposure then my parent's primarily used as an e-mailing machine.

Although AVG is free, it doesn't update quite as often as NAV. AVG hasn't had a single update in almost three weeks, which is forever these days, with all the Klez variants sliming around the 'Net.

If you plan to upgrade to XP, make sure you don't get an old version of NAV, since only NAV 2002 works with XP. You can, however, upgrade to 2002 for about $30US.

Nav and avg are both pretty user friendly. I've never used Panda. You can find Nav on Ebay pretty cheap(if you go there though, might as well get systemworks or internet security. They auction at about the same price and both include Nav.

Ive used mcaffe,nav,pcillan and am currently staying with panda titanium for xp.....less memory usage than the others but still kinda high for my likes but never the less it does the job,i highly reccommend it.It also won top honors with pc magazine as top.

I hear a lot of good things about Panda titanium AV software. I believe myself I will try them out next time around. I really like NAV but they seem to be a step behind at times. Just my 2 cents. Besides Panda gets great reviews.

NAV 2002 was ranked tops by CNET, so I guess it depends on whose review you believe. As for me, I have in my own personal view crowned NAV the King . Each to his own .

I remain a NAV supporter. Having run PC-cillin in the past, I would consider checking it our again in the future should I feel I need something different, but having also run McAfee, I would not consider it again. It's all personal preference and comfort among other things, and so far, I feel NAV and I fit beautifully. It's saved my fanny on a number of occasions, such as a few days ago when I got several KLEZ messages.

nav is a good. they have a fast update support. its the best choice

switched from nav2002 to panda platinum and love it.

Go with NAV, you can update the virus defs much more often than you can with the others. Current virus def upgrades are very important.

Funny... I just checked the date on my defs and it shows from today. Anyhow, I love AVG, it's free, fast, and efficient.

Well, nevermind, the updates are from today but the previous ones were three weeks ago (now that I read the other thread on this). Anyhow, I still love it.
