Re: ZipRecruiter - how do they connect to people looking for work?

I wish I could post Facebook links but you’ll have to accept my account of this :

Average guy works as BSA at CIBC. Contractor rate is $80-85 year. $160k per year.

Guy buys 2-3 br condo on York Street for $400k around 2007.

Walks to work. Pays for mortgage, food and travel. Rest is in Corporation.

Travels to St Lucia. NYC. Eats at Per Se with the girlfriend. Vacations are like luxury trips.

And here I wonder why is he always traveling in such luxury when I’m managing millions of dollars? That was ten years ago when I was a fool who hadn’t done the math.

Another story : my friend was a VP making $300,000. He said it was the worst job he had because of calls at all hours of night and day, business travel. Couldn’t save much because of tax (income and consumption and property). So after he came back from the MidEast after he saved a million bucks over 8-9 years, he went back to contracting for $90 per hour.

Believe it. These people have done it for decades and aren’t fools.

It contracting is very common, but those rates you are quoting are not. For someone who is a systems admin, you are looking at $40, maybe $50 and hour. There are a lot fewer of those $80 and $90 jobs out there. Still, there are a lot of people who do that as contract work and do quite well.

PM is 80-90 easily in GTA. Government goes higher. My buddy who was laid off is 85/hr at a College.

$93 is what my friend’s wife was getting three years ago as scrum master at Tangerine.

My other friend’s wife is $100 per hour because of her banking background and she is never without work at RNC/TD/ScotiaBank. He told me his wife’s Project Coordinator makes $80/hr.

Cloud Architects are doing very very well too.

Banks and Government pay the best.

Ottawa crown agency rate for Sr PM: $65-75.

GTA market does better.

My former business system analyst joined a financial institution downtown Toronto at $80 in December.

If I made 150k with four to five weeks off and kept most of it, what’s all this stress of managing big streams of project work getting me? I get measured on metrics ten ways to Sunday and not even cost of living raise in 5 years. And I’m assigned to multiple projects all the time because I’ve a good track record at work and my manager wants to protect me from layoff by showing I’m doing a lot (he’s a well wisher in a dysfunctional company). Then when I get the work done, my management looks good but they’re too weak to get us big raises.

Worked well with Phoenix, they should ask for their money back.

Everyone on Phoenix getting paid by the hour - they probably had their mortgage and cottage paid off by now! And with nothing to deliver.
