They say there are incompatibilities btwn Fujitsu and BEFW11S4. Anyone else w/ Fujitsu DSL modem having this problem?

MDS

cscudder posted : Chalk,
I can sympathize. After having a ver 2 work for 3 days and then seemingly going bad (spent way too much time trying to get it to work again) I exchanged it for a new one, started it up, and it has now been about 10 days for me without a problem. I have 2 desktops wired to it and a laptop using wireless on a netgear card. NO problems, knock on wood. A friend, who really knows this stuff, also bought one and had it go bad - possibly from lightening hit, but he didn't think that was it. Returned, exchanged, and no problems since. We are wondering if the ones we have now aren't from a later shipment, packaged a little better or just built a little better. Guess we will never know.

Chuck

variable6 posted : Chalk, I was doing your quick fix thing also, but it would not always continue surfing, funny how the lan side had no problem getting into the router, but not through to the wan port. seems to me there must be more people having this problem, they probly havent found this board yet to vent!!. I see the buy and return arguement is going on in another thread, I havent returned the defective one yet cause the replacement one I purchased from compusa is still unopened. I looked at there return policy and noticed a 15% RESTOCKING FEE for opened items, I will return this one unopened and then try to find another at a best buy outlet, the bestbuy i purchased the original one from is out of stock, arghhhh

Chalk6 posted : Same here with the MTU - tried it and still disconnected.

My 'quick fix' has always been to enter the router config, even though I cannot access the internet, and hit the APPLY button (without making any changes) and of course, the CONTINUE button. I can resume surfing after that.

I'm going to start a new thread asking v2 users if they are successfully running the router without interruption. If the number of people who reply with a "YES" outweigh our responses in this thread, I'm chalking it up to a bad hardware run at the factory and get a new router. Either RMA or buying a new one outright (and returning the old).

variable6 posted : Thanks for the advice, but I already have tried this, I had MTU disabled in the router page, and also had it enabled and set to 1500, it does not matter, the router begins locking up on on the lan to wan more frequently now. I can ping all pc's on lan and I can see activity on the wan lights of the router, but unless i reset either short or LOOOOONG Reset the pc's cannot get out to internet. and the loong reset does not help any more than the short recess or the reset factory defaults settings on the web page of the router. this went from once every couple days last week to every 20 minutes until i finally ripped the thing out and connected my pc directly to the motorola cable modem.
dorsai posted : This may have absolutely nothing to do with your problem but doesn't hurt to try.

Make sure your MTU settings are at 1500 (1492 for PPPoE). I have not had problems not with connecting and dropping off but I could not get Terminal Services to connect properly to my server from the WAN. This fixed the problem. If your problem only occurs during high activity, possibly changing your (M)aximum (T)ransmission (U)nit may help. You can go through the trouble of contacting your ISP to find out what MTU they use but there is a lot of info on this site about MTUs and the effect on your connection.

I never had problems until I installed Win2000 pro on a client and Server.Net on my server but from my understanding (and I hope someone will correct me if wrong), the operating system you are using may or may not influence your MTU but setting it in the router may eliminate a lot of bad or no connection problems. It is a quick fix on the Filters tab and easy to change back if it doesn't do you any good.

Oscar Amos
oamos@swbell.net

Chalk6 posted : Moved my wireless NIC and PC Card to Channel 10 and still saw drops every 15 to 20 minutes on an active (read: normal surfing) connection. I'm running WEP and noticed running a site survey that the cards saw 2 routers; one at default channel 6 and one at the new channel 10. Obviously one of my neighbors was running the same router (and with WEP I might add). Sorry to drone on, anyhow I changed my SSID to a unique name as well and directed my cards to access only my routers AP. No such luck; still getting dropped.

anon posted : I am in the same boat. BEFW11S4 v.2, XP machine, Verizon aDSL with Fujitsu modem.
variable6 posted : well we have more in common, my machine is an XP machine, My laptop is ME and the second machine wired to the router is a Win 2K server. I had to disconnect the router and hook my xp machine up directly to the cable modem as the router kept locking up after 20 minutes or so also. And yes it locked up on the 2k server machine when it was the only one on the network, and on the xp machine when it was the only one on the network, I gave up and bought another router, (same brand, so i can return the original one using its slip as the original was 12 days over the 30 day return/exchange....THIS SUCKS I am afraid to open the new one in case it also starts crapping out after a month.....and the flash to the new firmware was no help.

Chalk6 posted : Sorry - these responses always seem to add insult to injury since they don't offer any kind of solution *BUT* I'm in the same boat as well. Same connections and same router (the v2), even same brand of cable modem except I'm using XP machines. This occurred on the shipping firmware 1.40.2 so I thought an upgrade to the new beta would do the trick.
While the new firmware hasn't presented any problems, my disconnects from the router seem more frequent, like every 20 or 30 minutes I'll lose connection. All hardware is basically in the same room with the exception of my roaming laptop. Tonight I'll try to change channels or move the router around and post a reply.

If anyone needs more hardware info, I'd be more than happy to share it.

PS - I just went to post this and lost my connection!

variable6 posted : Oh Yes one more thing, This all seemed to start when I began using the laptops wireless function, but I am not sure if It is what caused it or not. I have noticed looking around here and on alt.wireless that there seems to be a problem that is not being addressed with these routers losing connections, SO should I Update Firmware or try to return this for another, It of course figures that I just checked my sales slip from Best Buy and I had purchased this on 3/24/02 so I just missed the one month return,,, amazing so again ANY IDEAS?????

variable6 posted : I have this same type of problem with my befw11s4 v.2 as mentioned in the post regarding this router and latest firmware, sorta. It has been working great since I bought it about a month ago and all of a sudden i will lose connection to internet on the wan side. all the lights are working no red light and my cable modem shows a good connection, (cable modem is a motorola surfboard 4100 I have adelphia cable) the activity light on the cable modem will blink and when i try to open a page the activity lights on the linksys will flash but nothing happens. if i reset the router it will work fine for a couple of hours. I have tried turning dhcp off, tried disabling my wireless , (i have a laptop with a wireless card it will work fine for a while then it will hang also, same problem have to reset the router,) At first I thought this might be a problem with the cable modem but now I see it is the router, I have not flashed the firmware or changed any settings, I have even tried using dhcp for the laptop and assigning static ip to the two wired machines. the same problem will occur, i moved the starting range of dhcp up to 192.169.1.5 so the laptop wouldnt try to grab a static, I assigned the two wired boxes .2 and .3 still no luck, the router starts locking up every couple of hours. this thing had worked perfect when only the hardwired machines were on but now even with wireless disabled the wired machines will quit being able to get out to the internet, I have it set back up to dhcp enabled and took all ip settings out of my wired machines let them use dhcp and they connect fine under dhcp status it shows the machines and there ip addresses but after a couple hours no more internet connection unless i reset router, I have tried release and renew with the wan dhcp to the cable modem and this hasnt helped either..went back to just static ips and no wireless and still same problem.HELP HELP
