OT: Verizon DSL

i know this is an ool forum, but it just seems that the knowledgable people go here, and not to forums such as "verizon". i just got verizon (ool obviously isn't available) and the speeds are crap, i can only get ~16KB/s and i get 2%-4% (sometimes 10%) packets loss. RWIN is 16384. any suggestions for tweaking?

There might be something we can tweak.
We'll need the test results to tell however.
Post them and let's see if we can get you any more speed.

Even though you live so far, it doesn't mean your speeds should be so crappy.. you're tweakable..

Ok, there are a few things we can fix.

For your settings, do this:
Download DR TCP to your desktop.
Set TCP Rec Window to 23040
Set Window Scaling OFF.
Set Time Stamping, Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, and Black Hole Detection all to default.
Set Max Dup Acks and TTL both blank.
Save, exit, and reboot.

Post a new tweak test result and a speed test result from: »nyc.speakeasy.net

There's some packet loss at your address. See if anything in this thread applies to your set-up: »Modem Placement !
Make sure filters are in place on all your jacks.
One poster solved a similar problem by untangling the birds nest behind his computer and plugging the modem power cord directly into the wall instead of the 6-way power strip he'd been using.
Make sure NIC is fully seated in it's slot, and that drivers are up to date: »Tweaking FAQ »NIC drivers. Update yours for a possible boost.
Good luck.

Your download speed : 52579 bps, or 52 kbps.
A 6.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 81532 bps, or 81 kbps

i followed those threads, moved my modem away from my computer and i switched the power to a direct wall jack, and i followed those tweak guidelines. using DU Meter while running the tests, i've seen spikes of up to 20 kb/s, then down to 0 for a few seconds, then jumps around between 5-13 and keeps repeating itself. still no luck

Your connection hardly qualified as broadband, at least in that test

Well DCX you most certainly have some problems going on at your address, and if you have done just about everything that garp has suggested it might be time to get your provider in on the action and to see if they can figure it out. You have filters on all the phone lines -- right? You don't happen to have an alarm system do you? As these things can really foul up a DSL line if not properly wired, etc. Ram

Have you looked to see if there is an update available for your NIC?

Also run a speed test to these 2 locations and see what you get.
