FiOS Linear 4K DiscussionEDIT: this thread is now to discuss any linear 4K event Fios has.
The NASCAR 5/11 event at 7:30p in Kansas will be available in 4K on channel 1499– however, note that 1499 may not be active until the event starts. Broadcast by FS1 4k. Obviously only on 4100 boxes.
In other news, to make room for the new NBA League Pass/MLS Direct Kick/MLB Extra Innings/NHL Center Ice SD channels were all removed.
That is all the information I have on this event. |

Was able to tune to the channel on a 1100 box, in case anyone was curious. |

That was a spot occupied by a NBA League Pass channel in SD. I just noticed that Verizon removed all the SD channels of MLB Extra Innings/NHL Center Ice/MLS Direct Kick/NBA League Pass. When did that happen? |

I'm curious how UHD will look on FiOS? I'm assuming they are using IP delivery and not QAM? |

To be clear— this is currently the only 4k event scheduled. I do not know what future events will occur. |

It will be QAM. If you need proof, just tune to the channel now and you will see a non-4k slate. Turn off your router and the slate is still there. said by aaronwt:I'm curious how UHD will look on FiOS? I'm assuming they are using IP delivery and not QAM? |

I have the 1100 Boxes.
When I tune to that 1499 channel, it says that it is on 243 MHz.
Assuming it is QAM and not an Internet feed, now is a doubt whether is it in HEVC or regular MPEG4. IMO is needs to be HEVC, as MPEG-4 bitrate is too much for the Coax cable to handle ( beyond ~38mbps, no matter the codec ).
Also, since the 4K boxes (4100's ) are the only ones with HEVC support, then at the time the feed goes live, they should be the only boxes to actually see it. The 4K feed that is.
Finally, it could be that the "Splash Screen Channel" is QAM ( since we all can see it ) , but when the actual feed / Event goes Live, they will switch it over to an Internet Feed, so only the 4K ( 4100 boxes ) can receive said 4K feed. |

U have no idea how excited I am !! I am as well. Assuming that there will be more Live 4K Events from Verizon FiOS, and eventually on par with the other Providers. As in the AVS Forum List. |

Fios would need an agreement with NBC sports for the EPL soccer in 4K , then would be identical to optimum and fubo TV.
Possibly Turner for next years March madness |

There’s no point in speculating... all these questions will be answered in about 7 hours. |

I am assuming that once the feed goes live ( even though I have a 4KTV, I will not be able to tune in, because I do not have the 4K boxes (4100's). In turn, are needed for 4K feeds via the HEVC codec. |

Some things to fix with this channel already. Assuming that there will be more Events in the future for FS1.
1. It should say "FS14K". Not "FS4K1".
2. The Guide Tags should read "4K", instead of / replacing the "HD" one. Since it is a 4K channel, not a regular HD one.
This is akin to when the MSG+2 HD channel was launched. They called it something like MSG2plus". Eventually they fixed it, with the help of our Forum users getting the word out. |

IMO is needs to be HEVC, as MPEG-4 bitrate is too much for the Coax cable to handle ( beyond ~38mbps, no matter the codec ). Coaxial cable can handle all of that but the limitations if any are with the vms4100 box. Coax on fios has up to 135 QAM channels each at 38 Mbps with mix of mpeg 2 & mpeg4. Mpeg4 bitrate can be as little or as much as mpeg2 so to say mpeg4 bitrate is too much makes no sense. At the moment all QAM channels are 256QAM with up to 38 Mbps. Coax can carry QAM and higher modulation OFDM signals which cable companies use for docis 3.1 so to say coax cable can't handle it is false. |

I agree a 4K tag is needed long term, but HD isn’t wrong. |
