Re: From Flashcom to Earthlink...I guess its line sharing, but GTE installed a DSL splitter outside the house and ran a clean dsl line to the modem with no phones inline. That happened when they initially set me up for Flashcom. I didn't use any of the filters on my phone lines. From what I understood line sharing is a thing between a dsl provider and the phone company. Instead of buying equipment at the central office, verison is required to "share" its lines with covad as to prevent monopolies. Earthlink/Mindspring provide the filters so you can do a "home install" without having the phone company come to your house for additional wiring. Its nice in a way because you can connect your dsl to any phone jack in the house, I have to connect to one specific jack located in the family room. |
