BellAtlantic posted : Yeah, I am aware of the soft cap with CenturyLink - but nearly every major residential provider has one, and at 1TB, I'll probably never need to worry about it, unlike a 300GB cap. Plus, its a soft cap.

I'm in a relatively new development with VDSL2 service, a DSLAM fed by 10G fiber, and a relatively short loop length, so speed tests have been pretty consistent. Average 75-80 Mbps (paying for 80) down, upload is almost always 38-40 Mbps.

I will say you're right about Sparklight - they definitely "over provisioned" my line, and speed tests were always 110 down, 10 up - very consistently. However, I'm not sure if its my local area or what, but latency was terrible with them, 30-60ms just to servers in my immediate area, whereas with CenturyLink I'm getting 10-30ms to the same servers.

StSin posted : Just for the record, you have a (soft) cap of 1TB on (almost) all of CenturyLink plans except gigabit. See: »www.centurylink.com/abou ··· ion.html

That being said if you actually get those speeds from CenturyLink you have an awesome location as those "up to" numbers with non fiber to the house tend to be all over the map when the speed testing comes out. The one good thing I'll say about spark light is as long as you have less than a gig plan you tend to beat the advertised speed. (Or perhaps that's only Idaho.) Either way, congrats on the cheaper option (here it's a Max of 60 and I've not used less than a TB in a long time :(
