Re: New apparent SMTP error

Just curious why people use Cox's email?

You can configure Gmail to fetch your Cox email via POP - so you can keep your Cox address but have it all in Gmail. That way you don't need to use Cox's SMTP servers, you gain benefit of Gmail's excellent spam filtering.

Out of curiosity I went to »myemail.cox.net and it just does an infinite SAML redirect loop after authenticating - never brings up email interface!

I use Thunderbird local to my machine to read/write Cox email - it accesses Cox via POP and SMTP. I rarely log into Cox and even more rarely log into Cox's Webmail.

However, by the time the email that arrives at Cox gets to where it can be accessed by POP, it has already been filtered by Cox's email servers. So using Gmail to access Cox email via POP just adds an after-layer of SPAM filtering.

I saw some info about using gmail to access Cox email but was too blotto at the time to investigate further - plus I have 8 Cox email addresses (I think 8) and am not sure (due to said blottoness) how gmail handles such an environment. That is, it's not clear what using gmail for Cox email buys me. And especially so now that it certainly looks like Cox is getting rid of email serving anyway.
