There seems to be growing consensus as far as latest CCleaner (Avast product) that the bloom is off the rose especially for Windows 10. If I cannot or should not use registry cleaner, the "junk" clean up can be done with Windows native "Disk Clean up." Latest CCleaner by default wants to keep running in background and by default schedules update-installation in Task Scheduler without user permission. Perhaps I'm being too judgmental, but after many years, I guess I'll have to leave CCleaner behind now that I'm on Windows 10. It's been a good ride.

Try Kerish Doctor. That's what I'm using on all 6 computers.
They have a trial version.

I am very happy with it.

One option is to uninstall the current CC version and go back to an earlier version--I use an older version of Avast Free (7.0.1474) and ZoneAlarm Free (9.2.106.000).

Here are two urls for older CC versions--I've downloaded from both and not had any issues with malware or viruses but, I'd suggest scanning whatever you download before installing:

Thanks everybody. Right this moment I'm trying free version "Wise Disk Cleaner." Thanks for some other ideas as well.

Or you could do as I and many others have done and use a portable version. All lights and monitors on it go off when you exit/quit.

It didn't occur to me that ccleaner had portable version. Oops. Will give it a look see. Thanks.

EDIT: Bingo!! I like portable. Incidentally, Wise Disk Cleaner is nice also...not a bad second place at all!
