Re: [HSI] Connection reliability/speeds/other ?s in Columbus, Ohio areasaid by OSUGoose:Yea TWC and now "Spectrum" did do a lot of work to get the Insight plant uniform, as there was still pockets of old one way or 550Mhz systems, it seems after that was dealt with they then decided to rip out Livingston Ave and trunk it all back to momma TWC (I fully expect Livingston Rd to close soon, similar to Alum Creek did).
The only remaining issue that TWC never tackled was to to standardize the Insight lineup to the TWC National format, as there are still the 900's aka the old "HD" channels. Its one of the things with D* I liked was the national standardized lineup and would of hoped by now in 6+ years would of been dealt with. We still have those in the Shorth North. I assume it was to keep compatibility with those old DCH receivers that Insight used to give out, so Spectrum does not have to force iGuide boxes to be turned in as they still work with 99% of the service. Which, ironically if I could get an old 6416 over a worldbox with that awful UI, i'd honestly take it. said by justkdue:I have had both over the years in the Columbus market. Most recently, stuck with Spectrum as only "choice" (Legacy TWC). Be aware the price from Spectrum is first year only promo then they tonsil jacknup your rates. My current Spectrum connection (100) is reliably good about 80% of the time, and predictably unreliable about 20% of the time esp. late night or weekends. I always liked WOW better when both were a choice, but did switch to TWC for a couple of years when WOW jacked up my rates after 10+ years of seeming to want my business. If you have a choice, my opinion is about six of one half a dozen of the other. They both have good and bad qualities. Spectrum does "include the modem" but my solution to that was to buy my own modem when using WOW. Try contacting WOW on social media, I have heard of some success at rate stabilization that way. With Spectrum, it's important to make sure you have a DOSCIS 3.1 modem with them (sometimes the store is hesitant to give them for 100Mbps, just take the 400Mbps jump then take it off when you get home)

I suspect it is a firmware issue.

Fortunately I got one of their Ubee 3.1 modems by going to the TWC office at 315 to pick up my cable card that they forgot to send for the install ... person who handed it to me acted like hmmm, these are different, not sure why. (Me: smiling, dashing off to car, thanks have a nice day) said by brad152:With Spectrum, it's important to make sure you have a DOSCIS 3.1 modem with them (sometimes the store is hesitant to give them for 100Mbps, just take the 400Mbps jump then take it off when you get home) | | ·Verizon Wireless

Yea I lucked out and got the Ubee version of their branded and look the same 3.1 modems after "maintenance" window bricked/killed the Hitron I had that was rock steady since I got it in the summer.
Avoid the Technicolor ones tho, when you pull the protective plastic off the shiny trim, it has a oily filmy residue it leaves behind.
Must have been the same maintenance that caused my sb8200 to not be able to get over 360 down, switched to their ubee and back to 480 down...
