Gone posted : So fwiw I have reconfigured all our office phones and the PBX to run G722, as well as the voip.ms trunk. All seems to be working, including on the voip.ms side through echo tests, but as we don't know anyone else using voip.ms configured for G722 there's not much else to go on. One day, maybe.

Gone posted : There's no point for an ATA to support G722 because the analog phones that get hooked up to them don't have the fidelity to make G722 of any use.

nomen posted : Just a quick question here. If I have an ATA, and I make a call to someone who receives the call on an ATA (so we both use a voip service, but not necessarily the same one), then does our voice traffic ultimately end up going directly between us (ie - ATA to ATA) after the SIP servers set the call up? So that if we both enabled G.722 then we'd have a 722 call regardless what the voip provider supports? (side note - it kinda sucks that my ATA - Cisco SPA-112, doesn't support G.722...)

thehammer86 posted : A VoIP(VoIP.ms) to VoIP(other) provider technically wouldn't have to go over the PSTN (SS7). I wonder if VoIP providers do secondary peering via IAX2?

alpovs posted : They sent out an email about it 3 weeks ago. It states: "Please bear in mind that if at any point your call transits onto PSTN, it will be transcoded, and thus the HD benefits will not be noticeable. For more information about this codec, take a peek at our Wiki article here."

The Wiki states: "G.722 Codec

The codec G.722 or VoIP HD audio is a wideband audio codec that operates at a high data sampling rate. The higher sampling rate allows the G.722 codec to provide higher clarity of audio signals than G.711.
Codec G.722 and HD voice is available and fully supported when performing SIP calls where both ends of the calls have codec G.722 configured and will also work for all internal calls between customers within VoIP.ms, system recordings or messages.
Due to the nature of its technology and the current limitations with the existing regular phone providers (not supporting G.722), HD voice is currently not available when calling external regular phone lines or mobiles.
