Re: [FIOS] Technical Issue's with Frontier FiOS 1 Gig ServiceWell new ONT, and they put me on a different splitter. So its better, but still not great. » frontier.speedtestcustom ··· 2d75cbb4This is good enough for now, will have to try again later with them. See if I can talk them into running the fiber into the office and have the ONT inside instead. (they did not replace the old Ethernet line outside my house.) |

I just had Frontier gig internet installed at my house today. The technician temporarily connected one of their routers to the ONT and verified that I was receiving 940mbps download and upload speeds. After he left, I decided to test the connection myself. I connected the ONT directly to my laptop with a Cat6 cable and found that I was receiving ~600mbps download and ~940mbps upload. I ran speed tests on speedtest.net, speedof.me and Frontier's speedtest site. All reported right around the same download/upload speeds.
For comparison, I have not cancelled my Xfinity internet yet just in case Frontier didn't work out. I am paying for a 600mb connection but when I plug my laptop into my cable modem via ethernet, I am getting ~680mb download. Slighly higher than Ziply, though Ziply has less latency.
Not really sure why I am seeing such a low download speed. Any suggestions? Based on the posts I've read here, I am going to check which model ONT I received to see if that could be the issue. |

Ziply Fiber now has their own forum. » /forum ··· days=365You might post about your issue there. |

I had no idea that Ziply had their own area! Thank you. |

Updated from I-211M-L ONT to FOG421 ONT (FOX222 ONT won't work due to my CableCard).
Download speed went up about 100 mbps from 815 to 920 !
I'm happy now! |

So if i were to upgrade from 500/500 to Gig and have the 211M ONT along with a cablecard I’d have to receive another ONT? |

Yep, I understand about the video but I'm milking my TiVo HD3 for all it's worth, and until my contract terminates in Sept. May go to FT streaming video then and use the TiVo for my OTA reception which I'm now using only as a backup but is still rock solid. |

Paying frontier for video content is the most expensive and limiting option, even with your free Tivo, not to mention no 4K content. |

I upgraded a week ago to 1GB , but my speed has not increased, is a tech suppose to come out and do anything or this is done remotely? I have already powered on and off the router and gone to the ont box outside and powered that on and off. Everyone is on Cat 5e, I was already on the 500/500 plan. Anyone know what Im suppose to do? |

I don't have a 4K tv and from my viewing distance i would not be able to discern a difference. My packaged Prime cost is comparable to streaming options and their pricing, aside from Philo which would most likely be my selection at this time. Im getting turned off by sports REAL quickly present day. |

Did you get a confirmation email regarding your changes? Did the person you were on the phone with while making the changes mention anything about a tech needing to come out? Have you done a wired speedtest directly into the ONT? What router are you using? What ONT model do you have? |

i just called them, they said the rep made a mistake and didn't upgrade me, but now they want to charge me $10 monthly fee for the modem, I wasn't paying the fee before, now all of sudden I get charged. So my bill goes up $20. |

There is no modem with FiOS.
It's a router to the ONT.
Unless you have TV service through Frontier, you can use your own router.
I'd push back on the fee.
It was supposed to be dropped in June, but has been pushed out to October, IIRC. |

all I got is internet, I'll try to get that fee removed, they always trying to nickle and dime customers. |

Current thread about the law that was passed - » [FIOS] Modem FeeThat thread mentions the drop was pushed out to December. For ISP's, there are advantages to charging the fee... 1. Additional revenue stream. 2. Takes them out of the troubleshooting loop for 3rd party devices. 3. Gives them an open port to shut off service when necessary (unless all ports are stealthed, filtered, or open|filtered...which they should be). The average home user probably doesn't know or care. They just want it to work. That is the target audience. The downside to using your own gear is that Frontier will not support it, so if any troubleshooting on your connection is required, you're on your own. Those that don't have that kind of expertise might be wise to keep the Frontier device handy, just in case they need to get involved. |

So my bill goes up $20. Did you decline the changes for now, or pull through with them? If you didn't make the change yet, my recommendation would be is to call during normal working hours if you can (9am-3pm ET weekdays), and dial their Florida number. 1-888-457-4110 I recently went from 100/100 ($5 upgrade from 50/50) to 500/500 ($10 upgrade from 50/50), and they did not mention a router fee at all. |
