Re: [Internet] Packet Loss; 1-2 seconds, every 2-5 minutes, 24/7

You should have a chat with the condo board to determine the length of the Rogers contract. It might be time to entertain proposals from Bell. I'm assuming that there is a condo board and that the board has a limited time contract with Rogers.

Unfortunately it's not that type of building -- you can have any internet provider you want, which means a lot of providers cross streams...

Question Pickle , but can you post your latest PRTG graphs so far? And did you add that DNS sensor I suggested earlier?

Otherwise I got nothing new to add so far... I'm wondering what's going on in Rogers' network as it sounds like the whole thing's basically blowing up.

Regards

I'll work on letting it run tonight and posting it up tomorrow.

They called me to say they fixed the packet loss, I tested it out last night and while the packet loss wasn't as frequent at first [only here and there], it got worse as the night progressed, and is kind of where it was before? Maybe just a little bit better?

Anyway, I called Rogers again to let them know and they're sending an email out to tell the ones who worked on the thing that it was not fixed -- my guess is that they only fixed the high ping that I was having the past few days, but not the packet loss itself.

So we'll see what happens in the next few days.

AFAIK, unfortunately in a MDU like a condo or coop...Bell isn't going to install their FTTH unless they get a signed contract for a bulk deal even if there may be individuals who are long since pissed off enough about Rogers problems to want to have FTTH.

I just wanted to update you guys on what happened today, since the Rogers techs just left my place.

The maintenance guy who had 'fixed the situation' the other day came by with the other Rogers techs [he's a very nice guy, very sweet and humble], and he explained what he had done [there was a piece in the node that was faulty] and that was the cause of the sudden high ping I started to experience a few days ago.

However, as the maintenance guy and the techs began running tests on the nodes, we noticed an interesting pattern -- every single node in the building was experiencing the same type of packet loss I was, except at different degrees.

Node 1 & 3 had a medium frequency of packet loss [I'm on one of those nodes].
Node 4 had the low frequency of packet loss, but still experienced it.
Node 2 had the highest frequency of packet loss, which was WORSE than mine.

The over all consensus was that, while the packet loss on each node wasn't the same, I'm not the only one experiencing this issue -- EVERYONE in the building is experiencing this same issue to a certain degree...I guess I'm the only gamer in the building, lol.

So, what they are doing now is they've gone to another building that is hooked up to the same 'system' as mine is, to see if they are experiencing the same issue as my building; I am currently waiting on the Rogers tech to call / text me the results, since they are keeping me in the loop 24/7 now.

All in all, they said it's looking out to be a much larger issue that we first anticipated, and it is 100% confirmed that I am not alone with this packet loss...I guess I'm just the only one who started enough of a stink to get the ball rolling in a larger way.
