Cannot stop e-bills

I have never subscribed to e-bills but Bell took it upon themselves to start sending them to me. I contacted them to have the the e-bills stopped last month. I had to answer a lot of questions to prove my identity and they assured me the e-bills will stop.

This month I got another e-bill. Contacted them again and they want to go through the same 20 questions. Forget that... I created an email rule to sent all email from *@bell.ca to trash.

Unfortunately while that move keeps them out of my inbox, it is not what I want. For security reasons to prevent identity theft, I don't want any e-bills from any source at all. Why is that so hard to understand? ARGH!

I get your point, but not having ebills will do nothing to protect you against ID theft

Too many databases have been breached. Its actually pretty easy.

If you have a “mybell” account online, go there, login, and update your email address with something different from your primary email receiving the spam. Like first create an account with a free email provider that you wouldn’t use for any other purposes and direct the bell spam there.
If you put an address that won’t receive email they will default to send a paper bill

I tried to go to mybell but it wants me to recover my password and the link to email me a code does not work so the page appears to be broken.

As for identity thieves stealing my paper bill from my mailbox, that would limit it to just someone local or working for Canada Post, not worldwide.

IMHO e-bills would make it easier to have my identity stolen. When my parents home burned to the ground, I was amazed how easy it was to get them new IDs... just a phone bill, a hydro bill and my word. It is my prerogative how much personal data I want to be online.

Agree, far too easy and without the proper due diligence. IMO the minimum requirement should be a notarized affidavit attesting to the persons involved.

Suddenly I stopped getting paper bills and since I blacklisted their email I didn't get the ebills either. Neither did I get the email that warned me that my balance is overdue.

The wife got a phone call from Bell and they told her we will be put back on paper billing and to just wait and pay the outstanding balance on September's bill. What they didn't tell her was that the system will automatically cut off my service which it did.

I'm not surprised Bell cut off your service. You didn't pay your bill. How was Bell to know that the email address you provided was totally bogus?

How was Bell to know if I read their emails? I did not subscribe to paperless billing so they should not be sending me e-bills.

Well in 11 years I've never been randomly put on ebills over paper.

It's not a random thing at all... after decades of paper bills, they simply notified me of their intent to change their policy (regardless of my choice) and did so at the promised time.
They now put the onus on YOU to go fetch your bill and pay it....
This puts the costs of paper, envelopes, printing and mailing back into their pockets as profit!

Well maybe you just rolled over and took it but your choice totally matters, I told them no way I wouldn't take ebills, and paper keeps coming.

Many customers are on automatic billing (credit card or bank account auth), the monthly bill is a monthly statement, you don't need it in paper format, and you can set it up as a mail rule to trash.

If you're paying your bills manually, via your bank's website, via Bell's account, or at the ATM, you are responsible for paying it on time. You're human, it's easy to forget a paper bill / electronic bill for 1 month, but letting it drag for 4-6 months? Sorry to say you deserve what happened to you.

You stopped receiving paper bills probably because customer service employees have to sell a number X of products per week if they want to keep their jobs, and your email address happened to be available in the account.

The dumbest thing you can do it go on automatic billing for tv/internet/phone. Really anything but those are the worst.

Christ even the CRA took my grandmas income payment twice and it took her 6 months to get it back.

Well, I'd never give bank account permissions to Bell. Hell no. Remember when Bell billed something like 5$ for each 100Mb when you went over your monthly cap? Yeah... never again.

Credit Card with a rewards program is interesting, and anything that isn't yours, you call the CC company and contest the charge. You have more control here. I receive a paper bill for my CC, then I login to Tangerine to pay my CC bill. There's no need for a Bell paper/electronic bill if you only need the amount. But I'm not a Bell customer since 2004, so...
