Re: DNS filteringI guess different parts of the country are being mapped to different IP's. When i do a DNS leaktest using the CIRA dns, it reports the following as the actual DNS servers for me in Toronto.
206.248.141.194 206-248-141-194.dsl.teksavvy.com. TekSavvy Solutions Chatham, Canada 206.248.189.122 206-248-189-122.dsl.teksavvy.com. TekSavvy Solutions Chatham, Canada
This is for the "protected" profile that filters out some malware and phishing sites. DIdn't try the other profiles. The domain name suggests it's a dsl connection but that's not necessiarly indicative of what the connection acutally is. I'm getting ping times of 11-15 ms on cable which is comparable to cloudflare. The one thing I liked about the CIRA dns's filtering is that it puts up a CIRA warning page when you try to visit a site that is blocked whereas cloudflare just doesn't resolve the address and relies on your browser's generic can't connect message. |

Yes, in the GTA the CIRA dns server hosts through teksavvy.
As a sidebar, I determined that over Telus cellular in the GTA, Cloudflare's DoT is half the ping time and hops that CIRA's DoT is. This is due to peering arrangements. |
