btalbott posted : Day two of 30Mbps download, after running tests over the past 15 hours (even at 2a and 3am) and has been consistent at this speed. I wouldn't think this is a congestion issue, since I'm getting the same speeds at 2am and 3am. Again, I'm supposed to be getting 300. I can understand some slowdown, but 1/10 of what I'm supposed to get getting isn't acceptable. I have reset my modem several times, been told that they resent the boot file for my speed package, as well as connected a laptop directly to the modem. Still have the same results.

bwhitney posted : Thanks ComcastTedH, all is well now with my speeds. Download speeds are normal for this time of day at 500 to 940Mbps, depending on network congestion. In about 6 hours I am sure I will get a solid 900+Mbps, which is normal for the last 2 years. The one change is I can no longer see the config file name, only the status of OK. jbob mentioned this in his post above as a recent change.

Thanks to all!

[Speed] Xfinity speed is reduced

bwhitney posted : I have been on the 1Gbps/35Mbps plan for 21 months and have never had a problem reaching those speeds, at least during off peak hours, but usually I was getting close to the 1Gbps anytime. Now I get 240Mbps/ 5Mbps. Using several speed test sites the last 2 days the speeds are rock solid 240/5 on every site. For those test sites, such as the dslreports test, where graphs are presented during the speed test, the test results ramp up as expected then straight line at a solid 240/5 for the rest of the test.

The only way this can happen is if my SB8200 modem is provisioned for these speeds OR Xfinity has a speed limiter further up the network. My test results are rock solid for the last 2 days of testing. If speeds were network congestion, the speed tests would vary by test site and time of day, which I don't see in my testing, only the rock solid 240/5 speeds.

I wouldn't mind a speed cut during the current COVID-19 pandemic if I had been told by Xfinity they were doing these speed reductions. Because of the speed reduction, my Internet access has been erratic and unpredictable until I identified the speed reduction. I use cloud backup and cloud based drives for regular file access from three computers, Netflix, Amazon, and 4 security camera with cloud based storage, etc. If I had known about the (hopefully) temporary speed reduction, at least for the 1Gbps customers, I could have reconfigured my cloud uploads and other usage to accommodate the speed reduction before experiencing Internet access problems.

I know we need to share the available Xfinity capacity during this pandemic, but Xfinity should have notified their customers to prevent the frustration with Internet access and allow users to adjust their Internet usage accordingly.
