Luke_ posted : Upstream does have a minimum...it depends on the modulation. I think a 6.4 wide atdma is a minimum of 23. Anything below that won’t sync. A 3.2 wide carrier is 20 dBmV minimum.

You are right, low transmits will work fine, but depends how clean the node’s noise floor is. Apparently low transmits do have some kind of effect on the adaptive equalization at the ccap, but I havnt seen anything personally that would have a noticable impact on the end user side

motorola870 posted : these graphs and packet loss mentions are meaningless if it is on the main backbone not at the node level. Adding a 5th upstream adding capacity isn't going to fix a transport level issue between the provider and T1 backbone providers they connect to. I am also curious where they put the legacy return path for legacy boxes and cable card devices that have a SDV tuning adapter. Charter has a similar setup with this upstream configuration in some systems except for the 5th channel. Not sure if a lot of providers are standardizing to similar band plans on the upstream or they are all finding these plans the most feasible. My Charter area has 17.8MHz, 24.2MHz 30.6MHz, 37MHz all are 6.4MHz 5120 Ksym ATDMA QAM64. I have seen some people post it with the 36.8MHz as the top center carrier with the 3 others offset .2MHz lower than my area. Only thing i could think of is they are having rolloff issues in the systems that are 5-40MHz return compared to 5-42MHz.
