The RT-N66 is NOT supported. This says N66U, but another note on the supported models notes that the letter is just region/case differences: quote: The following models are no longer officially supported:
RT-N16 RT-N66U RT-AC66U RT-AC56U
quote: (Note: the U, R and W variants are all supported, as they are the exact same hardware and firmware, only different marketing SKUs or different case color)
My guess is that the router is just not powerful enough. Does it support Gigabit Ethernet, as 85-90 is roughly the limit for 100Mbit. |

The R and U are the same router. R means Retail distribution. It is just a product designation. Merlin stopped supporting that router with updates I’m guessing about a year ago, give or take. There is a fork version of his firmware thatI believe is still being supported. All of this can be found at » www.snbforums.com/forums ··· rlin.42/ |

I run a older version of Merlin on my unit and it has been stable for years. My 802.11n was always unstable until I went to Merlin that is heavily openwrt. PS my old router can hit 938/42 no issues. The OP stated he was using a wired connection, not WiFi. |

OP, if you can test the wireless speeds and see how they compare. Ensure you're connecting via 5 GHz radio and not the 2.4 GHz. Close to the router. Ensure your wireless device is capable of faster speeds. |

Linkysys firmware started HyperWRT and OpenWRT HyperWRT spawned Tomato which ASUS utilized. Merlin is just a tweek to Tomato which is based of Lynksys/HyperWRT/OpenWRT. Pretty much just tweeks to firmware/Linux based systems. |

Except when doing a speed test, can you tell ANY difference?
Reason I ask is when I upgraded from 20 x 3 to 150 x10 I could not tell ANY difference in day to day use. |

Is there a problem with one of the ethernet ports on the ASUS? You may want to blow compressed air to remove any accumulated schmutz and maybe some vinegar on a q-tip if there is any oxidation on any of the contacts of all of the ethernet ports. May also want to check the orientation of the contacts in the ethernet ports, one or more may not be making good contact with the ethernet plug contacts.
Please let us know what you find. |

That's nearly a 9yr old router with a 600mhz cpu... I would say the top end for that router is likely around 150mbps when all the settings are right. I don't own one and running Merlin would be a good idea to see what you might be able to tweak over stock firmware. Given that it's 9ish years old, it might be time to consider moving to a newer router. Netgear R7800 used on ebay for $60-$80. Then look at dd-wrt or Kong's openwrt build. The R7800 is the best router for the money right now, IMO. Want something on the cheap, take a look at a more modern Archer C7v5 or Amazon's equivalent A7v5, not much more cpu horsepower there either, though.... these 200+ mbps plans really need a router that's 2-4 years old to be able to keep up; especially if you plan to run a third party firmware and q.o.s. » wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/ASUS_RT-N66R |

»wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/ASUS_RT-N66R I have been using the same Merlin code for 3 years on the RT-AC66U-B1 with zero issues. I use a Netgear RAX15 (AX) WiFi6 in WAP mode for Wi-Fi. Recommend this router if you only want it for VPN and Features.
