Re: Service Electric Cablevision News

My brain tells me this should be impossible. I have been getting a V53 (loss of signal) and a dead signal on MSNBC starting a week or two ago. I checked the counters for the tuner, and they agree. Other three tuners are fine, and it's not just the same tuner. I find that HMMM shares the frequency, so I left a tuner set there. On the next V53, it wasn't affected. The outage lasts about 45 seconds and returns on its own. Also, this channel is the .2 channel, right in the middle of the three 1080i sharing the frequency. I'd blame the box, but it happens on both of my Roamio units. I discovered that because I was watching the channel on a Mini one time. I'm going to call SECV, but I know they are going to tell me I'm crazy. Have I missed anything?

I am having issues also with MSNBC, HBO, Showtime, Starz. I am also getting uncorrected errors on my downstream internet channels.
I am getting some tiling on these channels. Something is definitely wrong somewhere.

I spend too much time on MSNBC I guess. I've been having errors on other channels too. Checking the counters closer, it seems there is a signal loss almost a minute before the error displays. I can't find any relationship to error and channel frequency. No errors with the internet. Even the T3 errors have become less frequent.

SECV agreed with me that there is something amiss here and they are rolling a truck for Friday morning. Could have has a Wednesday noon appointment but I have to leave for work at 1:30PM.

I haven't seen any today. I would like to make a recording too. With the 30 minute buffer, just making a manual recording should catch it. Probably not related, but it's been two years since they replaced my pole tap. I'm getting lower signals (like 85%) on some channels, but since it's a basic Roamio it doesn't count RS Corrected. Every modem channel has a few dozen errors, but no uncorrected.

MSNBC was pretty bad last night I was watching the rerun of Racheal and the tiling and audio drops was pretty consistent.
Although my reset to factory defaults on all my network gear has cleared up my Amazon Prime Music from stopping constantly.

SECV was here and just had to do a tap change as the one port went bad. I usually have to get the tap changed every 2 to 3 years. They are also having issues with one of the 3.1 Arris modems with the built in router. Also the SB6190 is problematic which is due to the lag issue.

Thanks for the update. I figure I'll be calling soon since my tap just hit the two year mark. I've been thinking of going back to the SB6183 since SB8200 seems too sensitive to noise.

Mines underground but I took the cover off and saw we have an 8 port 14 value tap. It looks fairly new. I know a year or two ago they replaced our rusting green ped with a new durable green plastic / black base one.

Attached are signal levels (downstream). The line is when I connected a holland Moca filter to the input of my first splitter. I came across one and while I don’t have multiroom with SECV, I thought what the heck let me put it on there. If anything to keep interference from neighbors out, in case they run moca and forgot to have a filter.

Every 2 to 3 years? Why in my area taps have lasted 20+ years. We still have the original K series Jerrold taps in some areas. Mine in is a Motorola N series 17 value that Is from around 2001-2002.

Weather, mainly winter weather is what is killing the tap. It is shaded most of the time from the winter sun so the freeze and thaw cycle breaks down the seal and eventually water gets in. Also I have a squirrel issue specifically the neighbors feed them peanuts and they like to eat them up on the pole and they sit on the feeder line which my drop attaches to the line and follows the line to the other side of the pole to the tap. The squirrels end up puncturing my drop and this lets water in and then works its way to the F connector at the tap and then damages the connection over time.
I may have posted a picture in this thread a few years ago.
