Re: [Future9] Is Future9 Down again?

There's a massive difference between a customer with a legitimate complaint about a legitimate issue, and someone who attempts to "solve" problems by deliberately antagonizing other customers. You likely caused an increase in their support load, at a time when their staff were already working as hard as possible to solve the problem.

If what you're doing is getting you the results you want, keep it up. Personally, I like having a phone that always works and not getting banned from places.

The only reason why I resolved to writing on their forum is the fact that I HAD EXHAUSTED ALL OTHER ATTEMPTS to fix it otherwise.

And I did that by publicly posting in that forum. That prompted others to support me publicly in my thread. And one user did so privately.

The reason why I didn't explain the whole story in details here first, is that I didn't want to overload the thread with all those details, while the thread is about F9, not VOIPo. But you picked it up... Alright, here you have it.

Yet you kind of did. When was that 2009? Maybe it's time to let go, they are way different now. I feel everybody's pain when it's an outage with a VoIP company it's not funny at all. Pretty much all companies had some, many went out of business. For a fraction of what we would pay to land line companies might be tolerable or not, depend of each one of us. If a company has so many outages why stay, move over unless you like the pain.

Hi all,

I am planning to port out of F9 to T-mobile. Does anyone who has done a port out from F9
let me know
1) Is there a PIN associated with the account like mobile providers ?
2) How long did a port out take ?

Thanks !

Hello, lanb .

1. No PIN (Nitzan threatened to set-up porting-out PINs, but never got to it).

2. Assuming that F9's underlying carrier is still Bandwidth, it should happened very fast.

I once ported a DID from Bandwith (NumberBarn) to T-Mobile (Ting) in as long as it normally takes cellular to cellular (under five minutes).

To be conservative, if you initiate the porting out today (weekend day) you should have ported-out by next Wednesday.

One thing to remember, Nitzan won't know the DID is gone and continue to tap your credit balance. It'll probably take two to three months before he catches-up.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks Cinti for the fast reply. I checked my number and yes it looks like F9 still uses Bandwidth.

Good to know about the delay in Nitzan catching up, I only have a
month of credit balance left, so it should work out

I called t-mobile for initiating the port in and the rep insisted that they need the PIN to initiate a port. As there is no response to my support ticket with F9 and Nitzan seems AWOL, should I just use my account number as the PIN ?

T-Mobile is a cellular company, and cellular companies have PINs in their blood.

Seriously, most of their front-line employees cannot mentally conceive of an account without a PIN.

Your options could include:

1) Try to get someone at T-Mobile who is intelligent and/or who can think beyond reading a script.

2) Porting at least temporarily to a non-cellular provider (and one who works with ports like Midas works with mufflers). I'm thinking of Number Barn who also happen to have good relations with Bandwidth.

3) Port to a different cellular company that has good relations with Bandwidth, in other words Republic Wireless, but there you might be limited as to type of phone.

4) Try the port again at T-Mobile using as a PIN common defaults such as 0000 or 1234 or the last four digits of your phone number....

Perhaps some other Future Nine refugee will show up here to help you out.

Yeah, I am thinking option 1 is the one to pursue.

I did lookup bandwidth's porting out policies and they do not have PINs or passwords for port out.

»support.bandwidth.com/hc ··· ng-Guide

I may just have to push to get a dedicated porting specialist at T-mobile.

I suggest option 4. Generally, when there is no PIN to validate, anything supplied by the gaining provider for the PIN works. There are cellular providers also that don't use PINs. TracFone and its related companies for example. You might also ask to speak to T-Mobile's porting department directly. For what it's worth, I've ported multiple numbers from Bandwidth to T-Mobile though not from F9.

Thanks PX_Eliezer & rolandh.

Instead of escalating/reason with first level CSRs at T-mobile,
I chose option 4 and just gave them a PIN of 0000 .

Port was successful and the number got transferred in 5 minutes

Thanks again to all and for any future posters looking to port out of F9, feel free to use 0000 as the pin if your incoming carrier insists on one.

On to find a way to actually cancel F9 service now.
There seems to be no option in the account dashboard

1) Are you able to log in to the account dashboard to create a "ticket" or "support request"?

You should do that, then print out a physical copy and also save a screenshot.

I am under no great hope that this would do any good, but it creates a record that you asked to cancel which you can show to your credit card company in case of dispute.

2) If you have a credit card on file with F9, you should discuss with your card company in advance how to prevent future charges if possible.

3) If it is a debit card, you likewise may be able to notify the bank in advance to try to prevent future charges, remember that debit card accesses your bank account directly.

4) You might also want to send a certified letter by the postal service, to what may be a last known address for F9:

Future Nine Corporation
PO Box 660675
Dallas, TX 75266

Yes, the letter may well be returned, but you'll have a record that you TRIED to cancel.

Be aware that the PO Box is a mail drop used by MANY companies, so keep the letter simple and don't include any bank or credit card information. You just want to request cancellation.

-----

It's not about your small current balance, rather about not being dinged in the future.

In other words, at this point you want to make clear: Future Nein.

Luckily, I am on a prepaid plan with F9 and have only deposited credit via paypal. Only have about a month's credit left.

Thanks for your suggestions, I did take copies of the cancel request submitted via their portal. Also sent a PM to Nitzan here.

I left F9 quite a while ago. I don't think I need to cancel anything since I don't have any numbers there any more. But reading your post reminded me, since I had the same account situation. Anyway, I just logged in and see that I have a $15 balance. I figured it would just be too hard to get it back so I was prepared to take that little loss. I'll consider it a donation to Nitzan's travel fund.

I enjoy checking back and seeing the Future 9 posts. One of my favorite reasons to visit dslreports.
