Re: [Speed] Comcast's annual speed increasessaid by telcodad:said by Franken:said by nullstring:I am not sure what the practical limitations are but I think it's reasonable to say that ISPs could offer 5gb down / 1gb up over docsis 3.1 Comcast is upgrading to 1.2 GHz. That gives room for an extra 192 MHz OFDM channel, compared to 1.0 GHz. That is up to 1.8 Gbps extra capacity. I guess that gives more room to do a mid-split upstream arrangement (5 to 85 MHz), with D3.1 OFDMA also, then. Yup, I’m sure the upload gains will be much more appreciated going forward than additional downstream. Very little penetration of multi-gigabit home networking links so far, but many people are experiencing upload limitations with the epidemic. 1G/100M can’t come soon enough. |

I think we’ll see 2.5G/100 after some capacity upgrades (perhaps for $169/month). I think that they’ll also upgrade Gigabit Pro customers to 10G+1G prior to that. |

where are you getting these numbers. just hoping? or you have a source.
and do you think it will happen this year?
i was promised more upload on gigabit tier on docsis side coming "soon" by a gigabit pro(fiber) engineer at end of last year but here we are. |

said by PD001:Will we see speed increases this year or next year do you think? i think what saruman is referring to is comcast keeps promising better upload speeds for years, and they havent improved anything yet, oh they made the gigabit tier with 35mbit upload as if it was something new, yet 35mbit upload was possible as soon as they put 4 upload channels in areas, and didnt offer it for at least i dunno... 5 years? i doubt they offer any improved upload speeds with their current configuration (42mhz split) and when we might possibly see some upgrades like charter is doing, 1 ofdma + 3 atdma upstreams, or cox is doing, 8 atdma upstreams i believe itll be another 5 years before they increase anything i was really thinking comcast would be the first one to introduce that to everyone by the way every article looks like, they always mention comcast is the leader, but i guess not. oh well, hopefully we are the first to get fdx + lld, maybe the wait will be worth it for now im still bugging att to run fiber to my neighborhood because id rather have that. even after coax upgrades, i wouldnt come back. |

I got AT&T run fiber on street by my apartment complex, new phone line splices are marked with orange tag. Yet have yet to see it run to each individual unit which I doubt and it will be it will to front new rowhouses facing that street where tenants pay premium, maybe will get it, but the rest of us renting apartments built in 60's I don't get my hopes high.
My choice is between AT&T VDSL 75mbps (up to but who knows what actual) and Comcast that offers up to 1GB D3.1 tier. AT&T wants $60 a month for their offer that includes gateway rental. For just little above that I get 350+Mbps from cable using my own modem. |

I think the pandemic and subsequent WFH by default for a lot of workers (at least ones with services/professional jobs) should make increasing upstream bandwidth the top priority (with LLD being the second most pressing priority). After addressing acute congestion, I would think that they would focus on that, no? |

I know when it comes to television Comcast raises their prices quite a bit (they have to, they are passing price increases on from programmers, especially greedy local affiliates), but I am paying a full $50/month less for Internet service with them now than I was two years ago for the same speed tier. |

The Comcast rate cuts on HSI in CO were pretty unexpected. I was expecting $179.95 for gigabit and unlimited data when my promo ran out in July. Instead regular price is now $130 and I was able to get $10 off for the next year without even having to call them (website let me "upgrade" to gigabit at discount). Very welcome change and I am not really too sure what prompted it since CenturyLink won't ever deploy fiber to areas that aren't affluent. It was very un-Comcastic of them. |

Hard to say what the exact price is for the HSI, but my bill says $113 for the gigabit service and there are $93 in discounts applied to the total bill (applied to the entire triple play). |

That's surprising; up on the north side of town (Louisville) they do offer a $70/monthly Gigabit tier.
Try talking to an agent; sometimes they can offer deals that don't appear online. |

Try talking to an agent; sometimes they can offer deals that don't appear online. I don’t feel like getting into it with loyalty. They know that Littleton has no better option where CenturyLink has fiber deployed in quite a bit of Louisville and Boulder County in general. There is zero incentive for them to give me a better deal. I already have Xfinity Mobile, I won’t add video or CDV, and I already have gigabit. Also it’s worth pointing out that when I worked at Comcast, promos varied by the area and they updated their CRM software, CSG, to add an order workflow process that only contained local promo codes because people abused the heck out of having the ability to manually input any code they knew. What is available in Boulder is not necessarily available in Denver. Boulder and Fort Collins always had great promos for internet because they are college towns. |

Louisville does not have anything competitive to Xfinity. The fastest speed I and most of this area can get right now from CenturyLink is 12 Mbps or lower.
I don’t see why you’re hesitant to call, but that’s fine. Personally I have always received lower offers than anything available online by calling and complaining about how expensive their service is. |

Right, I know that, but there is little if any chance of my city and county opting out of the bill, let alone actually going to the expense of building their own network. |
