Anonkhaos posted : Just random update. Had about 25 issue free days until the past 3 days, when noise has begun to show up on those troublesome channels again. No where near as bad as it was since late August/early September but first time I have seen RCS partials since a few days after I had the new line put in.

Certainly seems like the issue is outside of my house and most likely someone injecting noise into the system on specific frequencies or a bad connector/line floating around either underground or in someone's home. Interesting thing is that the RCS partials are occurring between 1:30-1:45 pm.

Not going to bother calling Optimum since it is like talking to a wall 95% of the time with their support line

Anonkhaos posted : Yeah my area of Marlboro has a constant upstream noise issue during the winter months. It has drastically improved the past two years after they added some more Upstream channels. Now it only happens maybe once every 7-10 days that the 14MHz channel drops to QPSK/16 QAM , though now it sometimes loses lock. You would think after 2 1/2 years Optimum/Altice could figure out the source of ingress in my area but it requires actually doing something .

Agree with dmb, Cellular internet is starting to become pretty solid these days.
Anonkhaos posted : Sounds like they fixed something in your end. Upstream power level of 20 dBmV is not even in spec. Connector could of just been loose too and you self troubleshot it.

For my issue I have already replaced and tightened connectors and had new lines run etc. Issue is almost certainly out in the plant. When it rains, power levels jump about 2 dBmV then slowly go back to normal after about 10-12 hours. Usually a sign of Water damage. My entire block had to have all the underground lines replaced due to water damage and about half the lines on the block to the right of mine. that is A LOT of water damage for such a small area. Would not be shocked if there is more damaged line around my area

Side note:
Funny post on Marlboro residents page two days ago. Someone moved to morganville in an area that was optimum only, asking what isp to get and everyone was saying how bad optimum is in morganville and to avoid them if you could. Lots of people suggested getting FIOS though many also said only optimum is available there.

Anonkhaos posted : It still happen, but optimum would have trained techs on call and house techs that were well trained. A problem like this would get resolved which as techs would eliminate the variables or just pull load inh the area to see how wise spread the issue is. This is most likely bad connectors on the underground lines between the taps picking up cellular as it started once they swapped my area to the new 3.0 frequency range and t-mobile began to roll out a wider support for their cellular network

If lots of people have a problem, outside plant would show up and trouble shoot. Under altice they now have incompetent phone support and untrained field techs... sometimes it is just contracted out and they put more effort into getting you too cancel an appointment than showing up.

Many of the problems people have here would be resolved if they just trained techs. Look at how many techs some people have to go through just to activate their cable receiver card or get a modem put into bridge mode.

I can barely even get optimum to come out as they keep claiming outages in my area. When their tech cut my phone line the phone tech had no idea what I was talking about and kept trying to tell me I do not have phone service with optimum. That is how bad these calls go. I have had them blame my xbox for stuff. I once had them say my cordless phone was causing my wifi interference.... except I was not using a wireless router at the time and was hard wired.

Meanwhile I called Verizon to repair the line. Had an appointment scheduled in 10 minutes with a tech that understood English and they diagnosed the problem within a minute as a damaged line most likely at my house. I really miss the days when you could call optinum for an issue and they actually helped you. It is scary because they are kind of a sinking ship at this point.

I am almost hopeful Verizon will get the rights to run fiber in Monmouth heights of marlboro if altice runs things into the ground

Anonkhaos posted : That is insane how big of a jump that is . That most certainly is damaged coaxial.. Usually water damaged line is extremely prone to big jumps in power levels on temperature change. Could be on the coaxial itself or maybe at the amp or node. I read from Comcast that they had a faulty node and it would go crazy during rain. Took Comcast many many months to finally figure it out. Likewise temperature changes having such an exponential impact hint at damage somewhere in the plant.

Edit: I am not going to file with the FCC . I honestly believe there is a problem in Marlboro just moist people would be unaware since few people ate heavy online gamers thst use an active connection all day. I have only met a handful of people at my job who have kids or they themselves watch streams or online games. The two I do know have said they get disconnected usually in the afternoon when using optimum. One guy has FIOS and optimum and only optimum causes disruptions in his gaming.

There is probably damage or a leak somewhere and in the covid world... unless tons of people are complaining they are going to focus on issues causing a 100% outrage rather than a 1 min blip only 1 or 2 people might be noticing

dmb posted : Funny you mention rg59. I checked wiring at my place, and I thought optimum techs would replace rg59 with rg6 to the tvs I asked to install. Instead of running new wiring to tv on side of my house, they just reused rg59 and bridged it to a new connector and then tv. It wouldn't have even been that hard to replace it. I would replace it now, but I have a fios order pending, i am thinking they might replace it (coax is a pain for me to crimp or compress). I don't think rg59 works very well with MoCA(higher ghz frequencies).

Anonkhaos posted : I know a few people at my job in Marlboro very upset that during business hours (9-6) they k eep getting booted offline during zoom calls and their kids can't sit through a class without being booted. One person has had optimum out 3 times and all 3 times they had their modem and router swapped.. even had wifi extenders put in but same problem. Their signals all seemed fine when I had them take pictures of their modem status page.

I know on my block we had rotted underground lines for over a year and I was the only one complaining about it until two blocks finally lost TV service. Then optimum came and fixed the lines after a ton of people kept calling saying they have no TV service.. but I noticed the problem for over a year and basically was ignored (I had -18 dBmV or worse for over a year on downstream channels, now it sits between -3 and +2 dBmV). What annoys me more is that optimum has had my area of Marlboro in this "outage" label for a very long time. Every time I have called since August they see my area marked as having an outage.

Funny thing is this started early September (when school started and they shifted the frequency range to 5xx-6xx) and this leakage began, it might of been present prior but I never had drops or lose of service. I remember service was fine until one night I got booted off online while showing my friend something via a fast 20min stream. My upload channels were going BONKERS... power levels were jumping up and down by about 5 dBmV's and jumping between 64 QAM to QPSK to dropping offline then coming back. Maybe a week later was when I began noticing all the disconnects happening in the afternoon.

It has not exactly been "unbearable" though like in Howell or Jackson. Would just be random periods of slow/unresponsive internet. Online gaming/Zoom will disconnect, twitch streams would buffer etc. It is VERY similar to what everyone else is describing all over New Jersey, except I noticed when it happens to me I begin to pile up correcteds/uncorrecteds on various 6xx MHz channels. I mean it could just be due to the system actually being overloaded and it just spewing out garbage while it chokes on all the homes trying to stream/use the service. At the same time it seems like ingress.

Townhall wise, I have not personally heard anything but I do know a few times people were posting on the residents page how obnoxious it has been with constant disconnects. My mother knows someone in Jackson and she can confirm that her friend and their friends are absolutely miserable in Jackson and were cheering when the Town filed a complaint against Altice. Friend at work actually has two different homes. One is wired with FIOS, the other Altice 1gig coax.. when he is on FIOS it is rock solid zero drops. When he is on Altice gig coax, it is a trainwreck of disconnects throughout the day. Both homes are in the same town too.

Anonkhaos posted : already replaced it with new RG6 for my house run from the ground block. I am really hoping it solves the multiple channel interference I was getting in the 6xxMHz range as well as the RCS partial/MDD timeout/SYNC failures and T3 time outs. Usually during the afternoons (9am - 6pm) 603-615, 675-693 and sometimes 621 would all get correcteds/uncorrecteds and randomly go from like 38.xx SNR to losing lock/under 20 SNR causing an RCS partial. When 609 would do it I could also see MDD timeouts and if it went on long enough I would get SYNC failures and lose service entirely for 1-2 minutes.

Discovered it when electrician was running the new line. The line had to go through a closet and into my room w/ the modem. The piece that went through the closet was tacked down really sloppily. Just a 10 ft run of cable had 4 tacks and there were 3 on that piece of line I took a picture of.

My only worry is that the SNR seemed to have dropped compared to when there was a nail through my line, even though 40.xx SNR was exceptionally rare for me to see until these past few months.
Anonkhaos posted : Hope your issue was dealt with, pcgvertex and you got a tech that could figure it out.

I finally got my line run by the electrician. Black RG6 cable (dual shielded). The line that was under the siding of my house was so badly jammed they could not remove it. That was part of the line that was wrapped up and then sided over by the crew. Rest of the line was removed when it could be and when cutting / removing the old line there was a piece that was run through a closet that it looks like the Optimum tech those 10+ yrs ago put the tack right through the line. Has a nice hole going through the side of the cable (just off from center so it did not destroy the copper line)

Pretty sure that hole was what was causing the interference, even though there was a tack going through it. Shielding was probably ruined so over the years it just got worse and worse.

So far service is smooth but it is raining and during the rain I rarely if ever had issues. Only thing I noticed was my downstream power went from mostly 38.xx with a handful of channels in the 40.xx SNR now with most channels in 38.xx and a few in the 37.xx range.

Power levels are significantly more uniform.
5xx MHz channels range from -0.10 - 1.10
6xx MHz channels range from -2.80 - -1.00

Only concern is the SNR on some channels is now in the 37.xx range but.. I almost never saw 40.xx SNR ... ever... in my area since I am the dead send street at the back of the development aka.. I get everyone's left overs LOL. Why I was so shocked when I saw such good signal. Seemed suspiciously too good.

Now makes me wonder if I always had noise/T3 time outs and it simply took moving to the new DOCIS 3.0 to really cause it to make all hell break loose. Also might explain why my old 8 channel ARRIS modem around January 2020 was just bleeding Correcteds/uncorrecteds but never disconnected or dropped service. Drops only started when they swapped my area over to the new frequencies.

Will have a picture of the cable in a few minutes :)
Fingers crossed this solved the random drops/noise in the 6xx frequency range for me (which makes sense even more since that is often cellular range)

Anonkhaos posted : It is most likely connector related "somewhere" in the plant. It could be in your house or the line itself. Might be the Tap or could be further down the line/block. Why I am having my in house line replaced and might just replace the ground block once I look at it off the line to see if it really was replaced or not by optimum when they replaced the underground line to my house.

I am going to check back in once the Line in house is done and if I have to change out the ground block. If that doesn't solve the problem... it either is the Tap on my block going bad or something further down the development towards the main pole that feeds the main street in my development about 1/4 mile from my house. I am hoping it just is the line in my house going bad/maybe they never changed out the ground and it is water damaged like the underground line was.

pcgvertex posted : I’m glad to see I’m not the only one going through this. I even got a new TM1602 from the Optimum store thinking it was my old modem. But I’m seeing steady T3 and T4 errors here for the last few days almost a week. I don’t even know what to do anymore. When I do have connection the speeds are way less than the 500 I pay for. And seems to be a lot of noise being picked up.

Anonkhaos posted : that sounds like what happen to my area of Marlboro 2 years ago. We lost service on a Wednesday and got it back Friday evening sometime after dinner (probably after 7pm). Service lasted all weekend (Sat/Sun) but speeds were "meh". No packet loss that I could identify but speeds were inconsistent. Overnight into Monday service went out AGAIN for another 3 days .. coming back sometime during Wednesday afternoon. Whenever I would call they simply said it was an outage in my area due to equipment and there is system maintenance going on.

Since you are getting that message, odds are enough people in the area are offline that it triggered their outage system. They are probably aware of the issue but are not being transparent about it. I know in Marlboro after the outage I thought it was to fix the major problem with upstream ingress (every night multiple upstream channels would drop to QPSK) but that problem still exists 2 years later.... but it is MUCH MUCH better (I've only seen it a handful of times in 2020 where as in 2018 it was every night just about and 2019 it was 3 times a week). They could also be splitting the node, or perhaps the node itself(or amp) failed and they have to replace it entirely.

Obviously they can turn it back on, it just stinks they are not transparent about the problem. Just say _____ happen and this has resulted in an on/off outage that might last 1-2 weeks until it can be resolved. My friend in Greece had his ISP suffer major equipment failure at the head end. After about 5-6 days of no service the ISP notified everyone via a message at the call center what the problem was and resolution will take another 5-10 days. Transparency helps sometimes

spyder1125 posted : I've been battling connection issues and packet loss since Sunday Night 10/4, where service was completely down for nearly 3 days. When it was restored, it's been intermittent and frequent packet loss (average about 10% on a GOOD day) but have seen it go up to 20-25% loss on a bad day. I also encountered a total outage again on Sunday evening 10/25. I've been had a tech at the house, who escalated to the outside plant team last week, but seems there's no traction there, as I called back tech support again today they told me it still hasn't been scheduled (8 days after escalation).

I've been calling every day this week to just try and get some details as to what exactly is going on AND for some service credit, as I refuse to have to pay 100% of the monthly bill for 25% service. I've also filed and FCC consumer complaint and have a case going with them for some follow-through as well. I suggest everyone else do the same, as the more complaints they get, the more likely the higher ups at Altice will recognize these systemic issues all around. Everything from poor reliablity, to poor customer service, and these unethical business practices.

I've also emailed some VPs at Altice that someone so kindly shared their contact info with reporting all my issues. Enough is enough. Don't play the voice recording that there is "system maintenance", when it's an obvious widespread issue. It's bad enough that my family relies on reliable internet connectivity for work and school, but to receive all the BS that the issue is going to be fixed 'tomorrow' or that I'll get a call back from a supervisor in '2-4 hours' is where I draw the line. Don't lie to me. Gone are the good ole' days (for me at least they were) of Cablevision/Optimum. Fios installation is scheduled and hopefully that transition will be the last of the headaches related to the Altice SH1tshow. I still fully intend and deserve for getting the credits for the 26 days and counting of abysmal internet connectivity and strongly urge everyone do the same.

Anonkhaos posted : Rain put a pause on upgraded cable, since I planned to have a bunch of work done around the house as well and some could not be installed in the rain. However over the past few months I have noticed something odd... Probably nothing but ...

During the DHCP renewals.. I noticed sometimes in the info line it would have the various CMTS ID and MAC id of the modem. BUT there is a line that changes sometimes.

it would lease a ^tfp file that ends in /VER=D30 modified. other times it would end in /VER=D30/MTA=VSD modified.

Thing is, for the longer /MTA=VSD modified I noticed my SNR on the channels tended to almost always hover around 38-39 (very rarely one or two channels might dip into 37 for a few minutes). On the /Ver=D30 a few channels are now able to go into the 40 range (Mainly the newer 5xx MHz channels) Power levels are consistent between both. Just a random observation that I can not explain and odds are the SNR is unrelated to that and simply just how the channels are bonding at that time.

I have also noticed that the two times my modem rebooted over night(Between 1am and 5am), both seemed to reduce the problem. First reboot a month ago stopped the upstream channels from dropping lock and the second did significantly reduce the frequency of the interference. Making me wonder if the problem is indeed outside my house and the Outside Plant is patching the problem slowly.

Anonkhaos posted : That is good. Means the tap itself could be bad or further down the line so it most likely is NOT anything in your house. Now just have to hope the outside plant follows through.

On my end, installed new surge protector without any rf connectors on it. I do not think it helped but the old surge protector had to go anyhow. If all goes well, should have a quad shielded rg6 installed in the house tomorrow to replace the old rg6 going through my attic
