Re: That's Typical

That is a moronic statement. Why do you post here?

SBC has a great track record and has great service to the majority of its customers.

True, this job cutting sux, but the regulations are forcing it. Get rid of the regulations, and watch the job cuts ending.

SBC does not have a great track record as you claim. Pacific Bell a SBC baby is widely known for it's poor service on both phones and as an ISP.

What regulations would those be?

Are they the same regulations that ensure competition?

We're all talking about the same SBC right? I mean the SBC I know has maybe a ration of 3 out of 10 agents who even know DSL. The other half seem to be fresh out of High school.

I remember what one agent told me about SBC DSL when I called in for support on a issue.

"Well it will take maybe 4 months or 6 to process the order since we dont have the latest hardware we cant just instantly flip a switch and have the change work. We need to turn your account off first and rebuild it from start"

Me: "You mean your systems are so old you cant do something that would take maybe a month?"

SBC: "Thats correct sir Im sorry but untill they upgrade the systems here thats all we can do".

End

SBC has a class suit action brought against them here in california and it is not because of their excellent customer service.
Which rock have you been hiding under? Enron and the energy market price manipulation, Anderson and the whole accounting sector practices, Banks and their analyst ... all pointing that we need MORE regulations, not less!

Bye Bye All

I am one of the casualties at ASI in CA. I'd have to say one thing though, they are giving me a good chunk of money to volutarily leave. (I only have 2 years and no chance of keeping my job)

Those would be regulations that give strangers access to stuff SBC and other RBOCs bought, paid for, installed, and maintain. You know, like if the law (da man) said it was A oh K for me to come over and share something of yours that you hold near and dear to your heart..... Something that makes you complete.... get the picture?

Your "something of yours" argument holds as much water as cheesecloth. The public switched network is a MONOPOLY. Your employer is a MONOPOLY. All anyone wants is continued, unabated access to the c.o.'s to install and maintain their own DSLAM's. Hell, they'll even pay for the privilege. The Supreme Court just upheld the pricing structure for unbundled elements, a sure sign that the FCC is full of it.

Those wires you claim to love as your own are just wires, partially funded throughout it's 100 year history with taxpayer dollars through tax credits, incentives, bonds, etc. To say those wires are yours, or anyone elses, is preposterous.

This is America, not Sweden. Competition among taco stands is encouraged and demanded by the public....why shouldn't the phone company be held to the same standard?? I've gotten shoddy service from POTS lines for years. Now I have choices of carriers-choices that wouldn't exist if it were up to ILEC apologists like yourself. Your beloved Bell companies have had a century to get it right-and they have largely failed in those endeavors, not to mention gouging the public with metered ISDN and T-1's, spotty service, and support that makes AOL look like a winner.

Oh, did I mention how badly the Bell companies treated CLEC's during the heydays of the Internet bubble? Lost orders, lies, disceptions, 6 month waits to indentify a pair of wires?? Give me a break. Sure, most of those companies had so-so business plans, but it didn't help that the last mile providers decided to sit their fat asses on the orders placed to them.

I'd go on, but I have a job to do.

You will notice the ca_ in my name that stands for California I lived in the Bay Area for many years and I just moved back to Oregon.
I read many forums and news sites such as here and have seen the massive complaints against SBC. Also Pacbell is on the news in CA quite often about poor service, being fined by the CA PUC and so forth. Many of my friends that I talk with almost daily are Pacbell phone and DSL users like I was at one time and I have experienced and heard many horror stories.

So while I never claimed to be an expert, I will say I am well informed on the level of service SBC and more specifically Pacbell provides. I see several posts here that share my sentiment

I have no problem if you do not agree with me but don't try to attack my credibility on the issue.

If you have kids, you get a tax credit. Can I borrow your kids? How about your house you get some tax relief on.

Funny you should say. My '89 240GL (Volvo) rolled 200,000 today! I promise.

I see the QOS numbers and have seen them for the last 10 years. QOS for retail customers, not CLECs. They started a downward trend in '96. If giving up full access (not just some floor space and a few unbundled pairs) to your competitor is "getting it right", I hope we continue to fail for a long time.

My point is, just what is massive? You have read forums sites such as this one and made the determination that because the vocal few that show up on these type sites are; A) gamers, B)CLEC employees (or contractors of them) or C) The few that actually have a complaint.

Do you realize how many MILLIONS of customers there are that are happy with their service? So happy in fact, they want more, and do sign long term contracts for more?

Give me a break. You read a bunch of whinny babies complain because they have to go through more than a head nod to get in the front door of an ILEC CO or someone mad because the are PPPoE and not static therefore they can't play a game, and all of a sudden a 75 billion dollar company is awful.

I dare you to go to any states utility commissions web site and download every complaint that was made for the last few years (it can be done, I do it) and tally up how many complaints are valid. Less than 3% last year for SBC in Texas. That's allot of happy retail customers amigo.
