T-Mobile Home Internet with new Nokia 5g modem

I have been using the @home for about a month and no problems

When I started with the original modem (flat white square one)
speeds where mid 20s to 30s with burst to 90+

As I did more reading on the new modem I wanted to try it so called in and no luck new customers only.

I was able to get one though a connection with the executive team they sent me 2 (have 2 accounts different address)

Last night I set it up and just put in the kitchen and it doubled my speed I am consistently at 60 + mbps

In talking with one of the tech support managers Ryan he told me it will connect 1st to 5g and if no signal or not strong enough it falls back to LTE

It also has a battery so you can walk around the house not plugged in to find the strongest signal in your house and once you find it plug it in and good to go.

Big difference in performance

Does this have a connection for an external antenna?

It does not and funny thing we haven't had time to place it so its sitting on a back wall no windows on a ottoman near the floor!

Nice think is you can unplug the power and roam around the house watching the signal meter on top trying to get 5 bars once you find that spot plug the power cable back in and your good

Right now that location is showing 4 bars

Plan to try other areas this weekend

I certainly wish it did. I could likely get a better signal using an outdoor antenna.

people on reddit are saying that it has hookups inside you can put an external antenna on. »www.reddit.com/r/tmobile ··· ontext=3

I don't know where they're saying that, but not at the link you posted.

It doesn't surprise me that there would be hookups on the board but people considering this should remember the following:
1) opening the case will void your warranty.
2) neither T-Mobile nor Nokia will provide support for a device that has been so modified.

Can you login to the modem with a computer like you do a router?

it is a combination router and modem, so ... yes.

The aforementioned warnings about voiding warranty and lack of support still hold

Thanks for the info. That's something to keep in mind if my signal starts to be too heavily degraded when the trees start sprouting leaves.

I've still got to call T-Mobile to see if they'll tell me which tower I'm connecting to. It would definitely help to know if, in the off chance, I end up doing something like this.

Thanks again.

yes. there is a minimal t-mobile isp app and you can access the gateway from 192.168.12.1 through your browser to alter various parameters

here's the user manual:

Is it possible to turn off the WiFi and plug another router into an ethernet port?

FYI my strongest speeds have been in the middle of my house no where close to an exterior wall or window!

How do I reach the executive team? I called a couple times and have been told to wait.

Be Resourceful and polite explain what you want and why

The Nokia modem tripled our speed but know they are now back ordered 2 to 3 weeks

Call center will not be able to get the new modems out to current customers

yes...my speeds vary widely depending on time of day and I guess congestion. according to an app I have which shows the various cell towers, I connect to 6 different cell towers all within about 4,000 ft from where I live. I am primarily on B2/N71 most of the time, as I have become a speed check fanatic, and I also go to B66/N71 and that's when my speeds really shine. my speeds have ranged from 25/125 download with uploads from single digits up to about 40 . Early in the morning (7am-9am) and later at night (after 9pm) i seem to switch from B2 to B66 and my speeds go up. . My ping latency is around 90ms and when I had Spectrum it was normally about 40ms.... I only get 3 bars, I have it sitting on top of a 5 ft tall curio and I only get 3 bars. I'm at a 90 degree angle to all the cell towers so I can't get any direct sites with windows.

the wifi6 works great....the GW seems to have good wifi range within the house itself.

This is one of the better days for me. My upload speed went down a little compared to normal, but my download speed is up quite a bit. It's normally in the low to mid 20Mbps range.

Is that with the Nokia modem?

If so have you moved it around both in the window area and then also try none window area?

Some of my fastest speeds are near wall areas not by windows
