[General] Verizon Coverage in North Naples (by Collier/Immokalee Rd)I was wondering if anyone knew why Verizon DATA coverage is absolutely nonexistent in this particular area? If you travel about a mile in any direction, you get regular service back. I have noticed that SMS and calls still work in this dead zone (maybe using 2G service?). My phone as well as other phones show "5 bars" service, however, there is no data transmission. I can call with Verizon phone dialer, but try to make a call on WhatsApp or Duo, and nothing! RUMOR: I have been informed by other local residents around this area that at the beginning of the construction project on the southeast corner of the Collier/Immokalee intersection, there once was a Verizon tower, but it was removed/deactivated since construction began??? No idea if this is valid. Does anyone know the issue here and when it will be fixed? Or point me in the direction to do more research on my own. Call verizon at 611, talk to tech and they can put in a remedy ticket.
Verizon themselves will call you back and confirm/deny/inform you of anything there. |
|
| |
Thanks. Was on hold for 30 minutes but finally filed a remedy ticket. Now, I need to wait "3-5 business days" to get the results. |

Looks like it is the site across the street from the RaceTrac gas station. Looking at historical street pictures from Google the tower was rebuilt between 2018 and now. Very late model gear up on the tower. My bet is after your phone call they fix this fairly quick. |

The tower is no longer there. I have attached some screenshots I took from my phone while I was in the area this afternoon. |

Hopefully, I will get some results tomorrow. |

Wow.. no kidding? Brand new tower must have had issues with permitting or other.. » www.google.com/maps/@26. ··· 92?hl=enIn 2018 there was another tower behind the building. Good luck! Curious- are the buildings still there? |

Buildings? You mean these: » www.google.com/maps/@26. ··· 56?hl=en ?? Those are gone as well. |

There was a massive amount of back-haul feeding that tower. |
|

Is that good? Bad? How would back-haul (for my immediate area, as well as other areas) in the scenario be affected by the loss of this tower? |

So, I still haven't heard from Verizon about my remedy ticket submitted on February 3. Normal for it to take more than 5 business days? |

Usually not, but everything is messed up because of COVID. You can call in and ask for a status update, as it's possible the person whom was suppose to call you back simply dropped the ball and forgot. |

New cell tower installation in North Naples |
A new Verizon tower was installed 4 days ago on Immokalee Rd. near St Paul’s Orthodox Church. A friend of mine stopped and talked to the contractor on the scene who verified it was a Verizon tower. I don’t believe it’s been activated yet. |

Wow! That is excellent news. Hopefully, that helps with coverage in the area. For those with more specific knowledge and good eyesight, the antennas on the tower...Good? Bad? Mediocre? 5G?
Also, any idea how long it takes to activate the tower after installation? |

Wanted to see the tower and the progress. Pics attached. Speedtest indicates the COW/COLT is active. How does the performance/range of COW compare with the actual tower? I ask because I drove back to the troublesome area (Immokalee and Collier), and still no DATA service. |

My second guess for your area of concern is this guy.. » www.google.com/maps/@26. ··· 92?hl=enThe church site is fairly off to the east from there and the antennas pointed most likely N SE and SW from that location. Thus the coverage to the WNW would not be as strong. Although once it is on the air they may point your direction a bit to increase coverage to that direction. Yes that is the latest and greatest in equipment. Without being on site to see and monitor the equipment it is hard to know if 5G is included yet. |
|
| |
Thank you for the follow-up. Hope this new tower helps with coverage/congestion in the area. |

When this horrible coverage initially started about a year ago, I kind of thought, maybe this was just my phone. However, it wasn't just a "me" problem. I experimented with other family member phones and talked with neighbors also on Verizon, and they had the same abysmal results. Local TV station did a piece on the non-existent service....but it says the tower will be "completed within a year". Isn't that what they are building/installing by the church mentioned in this post? How can it take possibly a year for service to be improved???

I've seen it take a year between starting the construction of a tower, to turning it up, with long pauses between the tower finishing construction, antennas getting installed, Fiber getting pulled, and Electrical getting installed. I'm sure most of the hold-ups are getting crews assigned to upgrade the towers, and permits to modify the tower, if they're not making changes to the tower. But perhaps they're having an issue with the tower holding company (if it's owned by one).
But I wouldn't be surprised if this was simply a case of dropping the ball. |

Thanks for the reply. I drove by yesterday to see if any progress with the actual installation. The COW/COLT is gone, and there appears to be a long-range antenna for communication with another tower. Seems like it is operational. Yes? |

I have see it take six months to get approval to place a 4x5x2 foot box. This was Verizon the ILEC using in house employees for 95% of the work. Getting contractors, who do 95% of the work, adds complexity and time to any project. |

If the COW is gone then yes the tower is most likely active. Look at your phone signal indicator. It should be pegged while your in the area.
The microwave antenna could be feeding this site from another or feeding another site from this one.. depends which one has the fiber feed to it. The microwave might also be temporary while they deal with running fiber to this site.
How is the area of concern for you now? Many times the neighbors in a area can show up to meetings and voice concerns and actually start legal proceedings to stop towers from being in their area. Im still curious why they took down the other site. Neighbors are why most of our towers have been held up for so long. Others such as on tribal land can go up in record time when everyone is on board with the idea.. |

The service is still terrible/non-existent in the area of concern (intersection of Collier and Immokalee). Here's what Speedtest app displays around that area. |

I ran Speedtest approximately 1 mile west on Immokalee from this new tower, and it at least got a signal, but speed is pathetic. |

If you go to this site do you still have the issues? » www.google.com/maps/@26. ··· 92?hl=enThe new church site is twice as far from your intersection as this one is. |

UPDATE: So, Verizon has set up a COW behind the Shoppes at Pebblebrook (» goo.gl/maps/GmDW7gRBT2jfkDYn6). There is actually coverage in the area now, but I'll let the Speedtest results speak for themselves. Why two towers? Based on there being no coverage when the new tower went up at the church about 1.5-2 miles east, and that Verizon set up these temporary sites, does that imply (or can you speculate) that another tower is going to be built in this general area? |

Sunday after 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week that falls on a holiday...that is 5 1/2 hours pay for every hour tending the COW; it's a tough job but somebody has to do it. |
