I just finished upgrading a friends access manager from ver 1.41 to 1.5b and for some reason IE 5.5 always crashes when loading.
The AM 1.5 installation completed without any problems, all devices are where they should be and seem to be functioning properly.
AM loads fine, logs on to the network and authenticates the username and password but as soon as IE or any other application that requires the net - it crashes with an "illegal operation" message.
I've uninstalled everything - the sympatico software, AM, and the alcatel usb driver/software and reinstalled the previous version of AM - even remove all the reg settings - same problem!!!
I've also tried repairing IE without any success. I noticed that if AM is not loaded IE will load properly (no net connection of course) but as soon as AM is active all net apps fail (IE. Kazaa, Outlook....)!
One thing in particular is the fact that while reinstalling the sympatico software it gets to a point where it needs to tests DNS and thats where it fails (gives error 185 - help files claims to not be able to contact DNS servers).
I've tried entering the DNS servers manually - still no luck.
Does anyone have an ideas on what could be going on?
I have about 3 years experience with HSE and AM and I've never seen this problem.
Haven't called tech support either - yet (trying to avoid that...heh)
You will have to uninstall AM thoe(which should solve the crashing errors oh and make sure u wipe the info from the registry using tools from »www.jv16.org)
haven't tried RASPPPoE yet - but if these crashes keep up I think I'll give it a shot. Maybe it's a firmware problem with the modem...? ...everything was working before the AM was upgraded....:)
my problem ended up being a corrupted winsock. I managed to find some great info on this here »SBC DSL FAQ »I can connect but I can't browse, first time setup and got help with this thread »Win98SE - IE - Alcatel USB problem Dj Mau108 thanks man! I never really tried RASPPPoE on my buddys machine but I got rid of my AM 1.5b and installed RASPPPoE on my W2K install....excellent! so much better.
