Re: [Telephone] Is there a way to block callers based on their caller IDs?

I've never found any service or device that will block by CID? We've gotten only a few that use the same CID with differing numbers though.

We have been able to silence all RoboCalls though, even the ones that Spectrum labels 'Spam Risk'.

There are some 'new' cordless phone systems now. They have build-in Call Blockers. They rely on the phones phonebook as a filter and if you create a block list. There are a at least 2 different modes of operation.

- Allowing a call to ring once and then transfer to voicemail if not in the phonebook. It will show on the LCD the name and number so you can pick it up if you want.

- Present a message asking you to enter a code to have the call go through if you are not in the phonebook. Don't do it, and it hangs you up. The CID and number is available to you if you look at the phones call history as the phone LCD will show missed call in this happens. It the caller is in your phone book, the call goes right through unchallenged.

We got the last one, a Panasonic system. Since then, we have had only ONE SPAM call get through, a live person trying to sell us something. That number we blocked and they can't get trough again either.

Both AT&T and Panasonic offer these systems. We got the KX-TG985SK which is 5 handsets.

However, with any of these, if you are watching TV, the call will pop-up on the TV as Spectrum is sending it out. Minor annoyance.

Ooma will let you block by name. But that is a different VOIP provider than OP.

I did this with a small office location. We set the mode where you have to push a number to get it to go through.

Well, we have found a 'short coming' now... nothing that can't be handled, but a lot of places do call you with and automated callback, either to confirm, or have you press a button to speak to a representative. Today it happened to us, we had to call American Airlines over an issue, over 1 hour on hold or they'd call us back if we wanted too. Of course I could put the 800# into the phonebook, but many places use more than one number. Our Dr.'s automated call to confirm appointment always uses the same #, so we added it and that works fine.

So we had to call American and wait on hold. I guess I could have also disabled Call Block until we got that call.

I mention this as it is something with the AT&T method of one ring we'd have been able to answer. Now that one ring CAN be annoying though for everyone.

So everything isn't the perfect solution, but we just love this Panasonic one. Matter of fact, we think we're getting less SPAM numbers calling? Not sure, but it seems like it?
