I believe they connect either via hardwire or wireless to the access point/router of your choice.
Yep. Has an ethernet port and also has 802.11ac dual-band wifi that can connect to whatever available network you want, just like a Roku, Apple TV, etc.
Just a reminder that a next-gen model box has already passed through and received certification for both Bluetooth and wifi. Still hasn't shown up at the FCC, though. I expect it will roll out this year after the new DirecTV group takes control of AT&T TV and probably rebrands it.
