fixrman posted : Perhaps adding an emoticon would have better conveyed your joke. I stand by my statements, because a forum like this is rarely going to get you the specialist you need for the condition you have.

I have been in contact with many doctors over the years, and those who will not or cannot answer your questions or concerns adequately do not need to be treating anyone. I'd suggest trying for specialists in teaching hospitals, usually located in big cities, such as Philadelphia or New York.

Have you tried contacting the Mayo Clinic?

Good luck.

Minni posted : fixerman if i sound to you [the way you construed], then you sound to me like someone who's quick to make assumptions. The star trek comment was meant to lighten things up a bit, but you can construe it as you wish. Also, it so happens that most doctors offer as minimal info as possible, perhaps since they know how trigger happy Americans have been with lawsuits. Which is why people in unusual situations try to find out info in a roundabout way.

Also, if i ask too many nitty gritty questions, it could alienate the very busy doctor. Why alienate someone who might operate on me? He could even decide to have his staff say that "something came up" and I need to look for another doctor.

fixrman posted : I would tell you the same thing I would tell someone who is asking for automotive advice: You aren't giving enough information.

Any doctor would want to know many things about you before starting any kind of advice, such as age, height, weight, general health stats, nicotine use, alcohol use, blood pressure, allergies, other known health issues.

To me, you sound like someone who has been told they need to do something that they don't want to do, and if you are not getting the information or not understanding that information from your treating doctors, then you need to ask more questions from those people familiar with your case.

<said>said by Minni:</said>
I think I need the equivalent of StarTrek's kidney-pill for my veins & nerves.

This tells me a lot. There is no Magic Pill to combat any ills; it is likely going to take hard work and determination on your part. If you don't eat right, start there. If you are overweight, eating right will help. If you smoke with venous isuues, then you are a ticking time bomb, as nicotine is a vasoconstrictor.

Get back in touch with your doctors to ask them the solutions to your issues.

nassaumike posted : I assume you are talking about varicose veins, and the ways to treat the symptoms. The "pain syndromes" that arise post treatment for varicose veins are well documented. I am not sure what you are referring to in regard to EMG's, as the EMG is a diagnostic study itself and if you are having issues post a procedure to treat your varicose veins then go back to your physician.

Most of your questions should be answered by your doctor, and I am sure they would be answered to your satisfaction. Your asking questions that can easily be answered by a simple Google search, but being a physician myself, I do not treat patients over the internet. You really need to get these answers from your physician. I will tell you this, Varithena is a sclerosing agent, actually a foam, and has been used with what seems to be a good bit of success. I do not treat varicose veins and thus I will not be offering any further info.

Minni posted : Because many med-forums, at least of the past, were run with an iron fist, censoring like crazy, that's why i'm posting here. I'm faced with an agonizing decision which my vascular guy said he hasn't ever encountered, and therefore doesn't wish to extend an opinion (ditto my neurologist). They are actually the best of a string of specialists i've tried - i.e. best game in town.

But perhaps one of you is in a position to answer my itemized Qs?

I have severe CVI per this month's stand-up ultrasound (B-mode duplex with grey scale, color Doppler flow imaging and other non-invasive techniques).

But some questions are left unaswered by even explanatory sites such as in North Carolina or Texas, re: vein-closure options - specifically:
Varithena vs. Venaseal. Answers I need toward a decision:

(1) Is the series of Varithena foam-shots injected first at the toes or at the top of thigh?

(2) Why does Varithena require full-leg support hose post-procedure, compared to Venaseal? Even light support knee-highs cause me rebound aching, that's like black and blue marks.

(3) Regarding long-term, how do either treatment affect accompanying neuropathy, shock-like tarsal tunnel tendency and CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome)? Would the scar-tissue which Venaseal generates (around the limp de-activated GSV great-saphenous vein, wind up irritating nearby nerves and tissues, unlike Varithena?

(4) relevant to #3 - I should emphasize that there have been severe long-term Unacknowledged adverse effects from neurology EMG procedures especially when done in a cold room, such as severe pain unbending knee, and lots more, which Mayo Clinic's site fails to acknowledge.
...Doctors have told patients who had bad pain (from EMG) "that's impossible". The many testimonies were posted on medhelp.org forum, and i have printed the testimony-sheets years ago, because i experienced the same long-term effect upon flexing my ankle in a cold-room during acupuncture (and i, too, left the acupuncturist's office on bended-knee.
...Such testimonies have a way of disappearing when not printed out.
I think I need the equivalent of StarTrek's kidney-pill for my veins & nerves.

P.S. I just found this relevant site, and about to browse it:
»pittsburghveindoc.com/va ··· e-veins/
