Re: [Internet] using bell Fibe with a MikroTik CRS305

said by mrdindon:

I was hoping to be able to use a microtik CRS305 in order to "convert" Bell fibe 2.5gbps sfp to 10gbps sfp port using this switch and then initiate a pppoe session from my router behind that 10gbps port and use another sfp port to connect the regular hh3000 in order to create a second pppoe session in case the first one fail over the CRS305 ethernet port (keeping the hh3000 off until needed) but the CRS305 port where the bell fibe is connected from never comes on... Is it because the switch does not know how to negotiate at 2.5gbps you think ?

Maybe fudging the eeprom values might get a desired connection, but if you don't own your GPON SFP than it's a moot point.

EDIT: Maybe ask MikroTik support if SC 1000Base-LX NRZ is a supported format?

The GPON modules are property of the ISP(Bell) so probably not going to be an option.

There is a small number on this forum who own theirs with Bell Direct granted permissions so it's worthwhile to ask.

I think a post in the Bell direct forum would be the best place to start.

It's on the DL ;) Obviously there must be a valid reason.

Might not of seen my edit, but I would recommend 1st asking MikroTik if they support SC 1000Base-LX NRZ. It's nonsensical at the end of day and it's a common practice to abuse the eeprom for vendor lock-in.

EDIT: Curious, what does the monitor show when plugged into the CRS305? /interface ethernet monitor sfp-sfpplusX
