[Internet] Setting up a HH4000

I just received a HH400 and am going to put it in front of my Orbi mesh system via PPPOE passthrough. I chose the self-service option and it wasn't clear to me if I needed a technician visit to get this activated. Switching the SPF (from a TP-Link media converter) to the HH4000 ends up with a 1202 "HSI Configuration Error".

Am I missing something, or is this more that I need to set up a tech visit?

Yeah, I'm not trying to – going to use the 4000 as a modem with the Orbi initiating the PPPOE connection (which I've seen in multiple places still works).

it looks like your HH4000 is not yet activated.
check you activation date for this device (you should have the date in the email you received for the order confirmation)... it might not be active yet in Bell's system.

if it's supposed to be active, you'll have to call to get this fixed.

i'm the same boat as you, you need technician visit and they do configuration to enter your modem ONT number on his phone app, They can do outside your house if you don't like them come inside. Make sure HH4000 already set up fibre cable then take pic of the back of modem to show them ONT number. That what they did for me.

Swaps to the HH4k at the moment require a tech to do the provisioning.

They told me today mine is being sent via canada post with instructions for me to do self install. I’m not sure if tech support just had no idea what they were talking about

So do you think it's even being sent out?

I'm sure it'll get sent out like mine was but you'll still need to get a technician to activate it. I have an appointment for tomorrow so hopefully, that sets things right.

Thanks for letting me know. Did they send you a shipping confirmation or anything? Did you try reaching out to them on the Bell Direct forum here to get them to activate it? They've always seemed much more knowledgeable than the typical agent

They will send the equipment. It just can't be self provisioned (yet). The technician comes and provisions it via an app on their phone. All they need is the ONT S/N from the back of the gateway.

Technician just need ONT number, because they already know S/N number on file. That what he told me.

The tech came by today. He said he had to make a bunch of changes out in the back because “the wires weren’t even hooked up.” He also put in a new fibre line as he said he wanted to make sure I was getting the best possible signal. Everything is working great now.

Your first post makes it sound like a swap not a new install. A few things you said do not make sense.

It was a swap, which is why what he said really confused me as my connection was definitely working before he got there.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that since not all fiber splits have XGS-PON and though all of the 4k's I have seen in service at the moment are currently running in GPON mode that by moving you to a different split he was moving you to an OLT that is setup for XGS-PON when they finally flip the switch. It's not that you were not literally connected at all otherwise your existing service would not work at all.

When you said he put in a new fiber line you mean he replaced the fiber drop from the fiber tap to your home or a patch cable from the termination point in your home to your gateway? I take it as tap to home drop.

I saw him replace the cable from the wall to the gateway – not sure how much of the external cable was also changed.

I don't know what XGS-PON really is but my guess is it's related to getting 1.5G service?

It's related to getting past 2.5G service.

check on your modem GPON or XDS-PON. I've attached screen shot that I'm on GPON.
