Merlin235 posted : A garage door brace is installed as part of storm preparations. It mounts to a bracket on the header and the bottom of the brace has a peg on it which drops into a hole in the concrete. Then using brackets on the brace you connect to each horizontal cross bar on the door to the vertical steel post.

I don't see how a lock alone is going resist the force of hurricane force winds. A 100 mph wind exerts a force of 25.6 lbs per sq ft. With a double garage door this adds up to a force of over 4,000 lbs on the door. Even if the lock holds the garage door would probably buckle in the middle.

Pher9999 posted : First hurricane in our new house, it came with hurricane shutters. Overall not too bad to install, since the mounting bolts were already in the brick. It was just a matter of figuring out which set went to which window. We didn't cover the back door as my sister-in-law and her dogs were staying with us, and needed to let them out at times to do their business. Overall it did well, the storm passed east of us, but better safe than sorry. We're just north of Gulfport, MS.
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

Front

Rear

How it's mounted

Parts on the ground
