Warzau posted : Well at least you clarified the part of the attachment being stored in the cloud, I received three different answers. So hopefully in a day or so it should update considering the amount of data?
I just checked and you’re correct it is stopping and starting. Notifying me to connect to wifi and power. Sorry re the Braves.

GuruGuy posted : When I say drill down on the On Device storage number, I mean just tap it and go down levels. You may still see messages in there while it gets synced up with the cloud, but eventually it will have nothing there. This is what I meant when I said it can be buggy and report a number there but when you drill down into it, there is nothing there (0 bytes).

Attachments are stored on iCloud, not the device, same as the messages. Again, this is all explained in the document I linked to in the beginning of the thread.

It's simple. If you enable Messages iCloud, all your messages and attachments are stored on iCloud. One view across all devices that have the feature turned on. Delete on one it gets deleted on all. Think of it as IMAP for messages regarding the syncing.

With the amount of messages you have, 40 gig, it's gonna take those numbers some time to get sorted out. Open the messages app and see if the little message starts up again at the bottom, leave it open like that overnight (it helps sometimes). Sometimes it will pause and restart, pause and restart.

Messages are kb in size, so you must have a huge amount of attachments to equal 40gb total. It needs time to upload.

I'm off here for the night...Braves just threw away the game ugh

Warzau posted : Yes 37.5gb in cloud. When I tap on it it shows the second photo I did read there was a issue in 14 re this. When you say "drill down on device number" where do you mean.
No message re icloud in messages app. I did see it say uploading when I started it and it seemed to have been "completed". But that is where Im puzzled and I was told sure it will upload but the size on the iPhone won't change since your phone is the one that uploaded and will have the attachments. See my confusion.
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

GuruGuy posted : It’s says 37.5 in iCloud and then it says zero?

Drill down on the on device number and see if it’s blank. It’s probably still syncing but it will get to zero since it looks to be dropping.

Open messages and see if it says downloading messages from iCloud at the bottom

And lastly, 40gb is a LOT of messages.
Warzau posted : Ok that worries me, It shows still taking up 40gb on the phone. I turned it on appox 4 pm or so my times it's 5 pm now. I assumed that number would go down. It's reporting 37.5gb in icloud. Then checking I see zero KB when I check messages in icloud. I think there is more to this than just a error in reporting the available space.
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

But after today I've been told 3 different things by three different reps. If I turn it on I know that it will have the same messages and attachments across all devices signed in. But here is the kicker. One told me yes it will restore all messages when I log in to iCloud if I have to restore the phone as new. Another said it won't back up to regular full iPhone back up which I understand it will be separate like photos for iCloud. Now the last rep told me yes it will "backup" and will restore. But it won't guarantee the attachments will be there. Finally, If I turn it on. Would it reduce the space it takes up on my iPhone or basically uploads what I have and download any that were sent from other devices? Meaning If I 40 gb of messages It won't reduce it it will just share what I have to other signed-in devices and they will have the same 40 GB of messages?
