Re: How rare is GPON/XGSPON saturation?

To connect over 33.6 the head end has to be TDM - a PRI connected to MICA modem PVDMs.

(X2/k56/V.90/V.92 can be done over T1 as well. We had a few of those out in the sticks where the CLEC couldn't spell ISDN.)

What is a head end, all we have in our 5ESS offices are copper switchports to the COT or DS1's Integrated to the RT.

All or out RT based ISDN was a DS1 to the channel bank digroup and ISDN to the copper using a channel unit that grabbed 3 not 2 timeslots by robbing one from the right side channel bank CU slot, while the second slot could not be used for POTS a second ISDN could be provisioned out of the second by using the remaining time slot and and robbing 2 more from the next slot to the right, which then couldn't be used for any service.

Now that was in SLC-96 or 5, it would work in DIS*S but it was hit or miss as the Time Slot Interchanger didn't always assign timeslots in numeric order, so you could end up with 2 in one DS1 and another in another DS1 which will never work.

I had a workaround, but it was a real pain to implement and would only happen if the sub, usually a CLEC, refused to accept the cancelling of their ISDN or IDSL
order.

Of course nowadays ISDN is nearly phased out and new orders are not being processed.

By the way does anyone know what the acronym ISDN means?

Integrated Services Digital Network or (actual) It Surely Does Nothing?

It worked great for broadcast remotes for many years...as long as you could figure out how the telco set it up and then configure the broadcast codec box properly to work on the telco connection.

Its Still Done (NOT!) that is what us Ex Frontier people call it. For the early 90s it was actually pretty cool, except it was managed by the Telcos. (doomed to fail)

Turning up CT3s (DS3s) with NFAS was fun when carrier techs messed up the channel groups and/or documentation.
