Is that what the usual suspects here are saying, once again?

The problem is no longer ICU - it's regular admissions and er capacity. Most omicron stays are 2-3 days and do not make it to ICU. Some hospitals are seeing a 3x to 4x influx of people at the ER doors compared to a month ago - most with non-ICU level illness - they just need O2, iv anti inflammatory drugs, and for the worse a few doses of antivirals, and they go home. ICU and ventilator are pretty stable and generally only reflecting remaining Delta cases still existing moving through primarily the unvaxxed... ER and regular beds however are running out in a lot of areas, people are being transferred and turned away. That's bad for people with regular non COVID problems like appendicitis, kidney problems, gall bladder, heart problems, bleeding ulcers, car accidents, and other typical users of ERs that can't get in the door.

Like me who can't send my dad to the hospital with a Bronchitis.

In the end all this ended costing the life of my dad, he passed away on the 11th of March, nobody came for a while doing blood test or urine test and as for the other tests everything was on a backlog.

The story, is that on Sunday March 5th i tried to tell my dad to come to the table but he decided to come by himself without waiting for me, he then lost his balance and fell on the bedside and hit his clavicle.

The next day we called the ambulance and they brought him to the hospital but not the one we wanted. We got a call from the doctor in the afternoon asking me what i should she do with my dad, i told her to look and his shoulder since he fell and also to do blood test and urine test, i also mentioned he was swollen on his left side.

We got a call at night saying everything is ok beside is clavicle being fractured and he will be released soon, we refused since it was past 10pm and that time it would be impossible to have help to bring him up the stairs.

They released at 9am the next morning and came home via transport, he was talking and was fine. He fell asleep we then woke him up and he seem lost but still conscious we fed him at night. Then on the Wednesday we still fed him but he was barely conscious but we were told it's the effect of the pills.

We see nothing changed on the Thursday and he is breathing heavily so we call the ambulance at night and they transport him to a different hospital which is the one who treated him the last time a few month ago. They tried everything but it was too late the fungus infection from his bladder got to the other organs and he had two heart attack in the night so the next morning at 6am when we got the call to inform us that we needed to go the hospital since not much time was left we just decided there was no point and we decided to pull the plug.

Il continue this in my own topic since im still in tears writing this and to be honest i feel like i got my dad stolen from me and at the same time i have other things to mention.

And I don't want to sound rude but I'm going to - from a rough glance they appeared to be the ones of lower income from their dress/appearance/etc.. Back in the grocery store again for lunch and again the only maskless person I saw was a late 20s female wearing sweat pants and a baggy t-shirt with her hair up in a pony tail. The older gentlemen, ladies, and all the high school age type kids in getting lunch snacks were all still wearing theirs. I have mine on for work anyway - so I don't see any reason to bother taking it off to walk over and go in to get lunch at the store. The store staff were all still wearing theirs except the woman working behind the deli counter in the back.

Everyone has been back in the office and we sit more than 2 metres apart so we didn't have to wear masks at our desks. We used to have to wear a mask when we left our desk but that has been dropped now. Yesterday there were only a couple of people with N95 masks in the office out of over a 100. We even had a staff chilli cook-off at lunch and almost everyone attended without a mask. Time to move on...

Wife went to pick up some books at the library after supper - she said they still have their mask mandate in place and big signs out front that said "we still require masks here!" - so obviously everyone there was. I think it's going to be a long slow burn to see significantly reduced usage - my workplace still requires them through "July 1st at minimum".
