The Anon first mistakes E3200 as a conventional router-combo sold by a typical ISP. After pointing out that the E3200 is not a router, the Anon probably only did some Googling to find out the E3200 is called a Fios Extender. Mistaking E3200 for a conventional wireless extender merely based on the name further suggests the user is not familiar with the VZ products.

The final point is, without having an adequate understanding of VZ lines of products, how could the Anon hastily generalize that VZ is just like other ISPs providing inconvenient and unwieldy products not suitable for the home networking enthusiasts. This is an example of hasty generalization rhetoric fallacy.

Constructive criticisms on my logic are more than welcome.

gs0b posted :
<said>said by Anon068f5 :</said>
I personally would never bother with Wifi extenders.

I think there might be some confusion here, as the word "extender" can be used to describe different technologies in the WiFi space.

A basic "extender" is simply a repeater. The often are cheap, and just plug into an AC outlet. I agree with the anonymous poster that these types of extenders are almost worthless and can degrade WiFi performance for all users due to their half-duplex behavior. These devices have been around for years, even decades.

The other type of "extender" are devices like the Verizon extender series (E3200 being the latest model.) These are really access points with wired or wireless backhaul to the router. The ones that support WiFi backhaul have a separate radio for said backhaul; thus eliminating the half-duplex problem of cheap extenders. They fully integrate with Verizon routers, which means the user doesn't have to do any setup or management. They are plug-n-play and typically improve WiFi performance for all users.

The confusion here is Verizon stuck the name "extender" on these device to market them to non-technical users. Verizon isn't unique here, as the various mesh network vendors sometimes use the "extender" word to describe the non-primary nodes.

My issue with the Verizon extenders is cost. I've been able to purchase a three node mesh network system for less than the cost of one Verizon extender. Part of that is because the system I purchased isn't WiFi-6, but it meets my needs just fine. If I wanted WiFi-6 or the ease of integration with my Verizon router, I might have considered the Verizon extender.

But aside from cost, they are solid devices.

Darthgamer64 posted : Not to deter the conversation but if they’re using this router for 5G home, it won’t have built in 5G antennas. Are they planning on including a separate modem or something?

I’m honestly advocating for that. The older 4G Home service (that was data capped) had an external antenna that an installer drilled outside the home like a satellite dish. The new 5G was an all in one indoor gateway dependent on a clear path that windows & walls obstruct so I’m dumbfounded that they never gave the option to hook up a 5G roof mounted antenna. But then again, it also goes against their “home internet install with no truck roll required”. Is it an option for those who want 5G professionally installed with an outdoor antenna or are they not sure what they’re doing?

Love it!!! Love the design, love that it’s not the AIO unit that IPTV once was, love that it’s for both 5G + FiOS = better support for a WIDER Audience (& potentially faster 5G speeds). & love that it’s MOCA. So for homes on 5G, they can also just use the existing home coax lines to add extenders. This is why I HATE absolutely HATE Mesh wifi, a more reliable, consistent wifi backhaul.

But hang on, 2x 2.5Gb Ethernet LAN and one 10Gb Ethernet LAN. Is this not CRAZY expensive for something that’ll be mass produced? What’s the rental cost gonna be?? I just bought a motherboard that only has 2.5Gb Ethernet (Ryzen 5950x). You can’t even buy a 10Gb copper Ethernet switch without spending an arm & a leg. There’s barely even any 2.5Gb switches as it is….

Also, they should add some kind of ability to have backup 4GLTE backup internet. I know that’s wishful thinking but I heard of a few UK ISPs that offer backup LTE Internet as an option, it comes in handy for those who wanna work from home that are Executives & can’t afford downtime. Like why no USB ports for the flexibility??

I have several 10GbE switches at home. Although all the ports aren't 10GbE. My most recent one was a Zyxel managed 12 port switch. With three 10GbE ports, one SFP+ port, and eight gigabit ports. That only cost me $220.

My previous Zyxel 10GbE switch was $150. But that was unmanaged with only two SFP+ ports for 10GbE, two 2.5GbE ports, and eight gigabit ports. And for $150 I got a Netgear 10GbE unmanaged switch. With two 10GbE ports and eight gigabit ports.

And then my QNAP 10GbE cards in my PCs only cost $85 to $90 each, when I got them in 2020.

EDIT: I see those QNAP 10GbE cards have gone up in price.
