So I enabled (show hidden items) and found folders '$Windows.~WS' and '$WINDOWS.~BT'. I then opened Windows Update and it was showing me "Upgrade to Windows 11 is ready -- and its free" with a "Download and Install" button. I knew by the folders/files that were already on C:\ that WU had downloaded some W11 install files on my HDD and if I hit install by accident, it would start the W11 upgrade.

So I rebooted, went into BIOS, and made sure TPM and SB were now [disabled], booted into safe mode and deleted the hidden '$Windows.~WS' folders, and booted back into Windows. When I went back into Windows Update, I now had a red X notification telling me "PC Doesn't Meet minimum requirements for W11", download PC Health Check App, which I did and yep 'Health Check' told me that everything was in the green for W11 except for TPM and SB. Basically telling me PC doesn't meet W11 requirements, so now I don't have to worry about W11 "accidentally" installing or updating my system by chance. You never know with these silent updates, even if you choose "Stay on Windows 10 for now" your PC could be online, and you could be AFK and it would start the upgrade process on its own. Microsoft is sneaky like that.

So it was a good reminder that you posted about this for @robman especially since his new MB came with TPM enabled by default. I completely forgot about this. Added screenshots of how my system looked before and after disabling the W11 update from my machine.
Thanks!
<TABLE WIDTH=96% align=center border=0 CELLPADDING=4">

Win 11 Ready - TPM 2.0 [enabled]

TPM [disabled] folders/files deleted

No TPM & No SB -- my rig is safe from W11 updates =)

If Intel hasn’t got this sorted by now they likely never will.

Yea, you won't see any problems. All boards are more then likely revision B3 now. Its going on 2 years already, and I even mentioned twice that this was a 2020 problem so yea. I highly doubt any new-old stock of those motherboards especially coming from places that sell high volume. All the boards that CC (Canada Computers) are selling currently are revision B3 for the B550/X570 chipset and they are a much smaller retailer then Newegg/Microcenter (which is where I'm assuming you got your bundle from). They are even trying to liquidate those to push out the X570S chipset boards that have been showing up.

<said>said by robman50:</said>
With a new motherboard, that would mean a reinstall of Windows.
New board, latest BIOS, Windows 11 sticker (probably) on the box.... Windows 10 or 11? hmm...
I think it's time to do more research.

I'm using W10 until EOL. I have W11 Dev running on one of my laptops and running inside a VM on my main PC, so I get the latest dev builds installed. I even even get to participate in the feedback hub (which doesn't do much). The lack of features in W11 and how its become a cut down version of W10, makes it very unappealing. Users of W11 out there have resorted to using reg hacks and tweaks and even 3rd party software to get features back that were pretty much standard in W10.

Start11™
»www.stardock.com/product ··· start11/

StartAllBack
»www.startallback.com/

These are just 2 I posted off the top of my head. There is a W11 forum dedicated to Tweaking W11 via reghacks. I'm using StartAllBack for 1 feature currently. Show labels on task icons. Right now MS hasn't decided if they are going to bring this feature back in future builds. It is requested a lot in feedback hub with tens of thousands votes and hundreds of comments. How is it possible Microsoft reducing options instead of adding? Windows is going to become an entertainment platform like Apple. For enthusiasts combining icons, reduced start menus, task manager disappearance, and many other cuts are just unproductive. The fact that they (Microshart) are not listening to a majority of user requests in the feedback hub, speaks volume in itself. You can tell when they leave a reply or pin something. So far I am disappointed in W11 as a whole being in the dev testing. W11 reminds of a tablet OS, with MS not giving any thought to enthusiast users.

Right now the only benefit of W11 I can see for some is the minimal extra performance gains over W10, but if you already have a latest gen CPU and SSD you will hardly notice these differences. Also W11 is buggy on some hardware setups that the performance gains on W11 are negated by some driver/hardware conflict issues. Its hit and miss depending on your hardware. The only real tweaks come from owning the latest 12th gen Intel with its P & E cores. They get an extra performance bump (from what I have read) because of how W11 is optimized for those CPU/CORES. If AMD decides to do something similar, CPU setup as Intel for its upcoming AM5 with some type of P & E cores, then possibly AMD CPUs will get a performance bump as well on W11, only time will tell. Another thing I do hate with W11 is having to enable secure-boot and TPM 2.0 on the motherboard. Doing so prevents my machine from booting into a Linux distro running off a USB drive. That is rather inconvenient as well. I can see how secure-boot and TPM 2.0 would be useful in a business or school or professional environment, but I feel that gamers, and power users don't need this in a home environment. I know I don't. I know they say everyone "nags" when a new OS comes out, but they did a really good job on W10 over the years coming from the butcher that was W8 Start. Now all that progress is lost again in W11. Start Menu butchered, again. Resorting to 3rd party options. Also, dislike the fact that you have to be "signed in" into an account to use lots of things, including widgets, lol. I mean I prefer the offline accounts I've been using in all my previous versions of Windows, incl. W10 but hey, to each their own.

If you want top tier motherboard on the lower chipset, get the B550 STRIX and leave it at that. If you want the "enthusiast" X570 chipset instead (that you said you can afford) pick either of the 2 TUF series. TUF PLUS or the TUF PRO at the higher price point and that's it. Don't over think it, just pick one and that's it. It's like with anything you buy, it's always hit and miss. We always pray we don't end up with a lemon. I know pre-covid days if you wanted an item that was in stock at another location, a supervisor would be able to request a transfer for you of the particular item to your local store free of charge. This took about 7-10 business days to process order and deliver items between stores. Like I said, they did this pre-covid so IDK if they still do this today.

But that same board is only $10 more from Amazon with free shipping.
Octavean posted : Unfortunately it seems a lot of retailers and etailers are bundling stock that is otherwise difficult to move (possibly due to quality concerns) with high demand items like video cards. So a questionable PSU or a lower quality motherboard might be the price of admission.

BTW, when I was looking for an AM4 motherboard (in late 2019 or early 2020 IIRC) I was considering a higher end Gigabyte Aorus X570 board and the ASRock Taichi X570. The price was going to be about ~$300+ or so either way but the Gigabyte boards just weren’t in stock and the RyZen 3950X was very difficult to find too. So I eventually went with the ASRock once I lucked out and found the RyZen 3950X at Microcenter. I’m glad I gave ASRock a chance and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Keep in mind that X570 boards typically have a chipset fan whereas B550 don’t.

Also note that AM4 is end of life. But, given the amount of time that has passed since the problem originated I would say chances of that is low. If you go to Canada Computers or Memory Express for example, before you purchase the motherboard they go over it with you and do a visual inspection of the motherboard, to make sure everything looks as its should. Since they are opening it up and doing a visual inspection you can tell them to have a look to find the revision code number thats printed right on the board. So, this is just a useless feature and not a good selling point for me.

I don't know anything about chipsets all though I do see the X570 has PCIe 4.0 and the other has PCIe 3.0. I don't think any of my devices are PCIe 4.0 compatible and are being bottle necked with the PCIe 3.0.
