Re: Sad to see the car go....Well....I got the first estimate USD 4017/CAD 5100. And apparently that's 75% of the vehicle's value.
All from a split second of mistake, jockeying the car in the driveway, backing it up and entering the other side of the garage to park it in. |

I took out my passenger side mirror on the edge of the garage while my wife watched me... |

Why not just get a junkyard fender and keep going? That’s not even close to totaled. Or if you’re into the hillbilly fix like I am, fill it with expanding foam, let it cure, and sand it down until it somewhat matches. Or jsut drive it as it. |

The collision place that the only used part they found was a bulb.
I could do expanding foam. My wife gets her new car in August so this vehicle needs to last me just 5 more months. |

There are dozens of fenders on car-part.com in or near toronto, these cars are a dime a dozen. If you're willing to pay import duties, there is a fender on rock auto for $45. Also check facebook marketplace, theyre parted out all the time on there. Never do business with that body shop again... |

I've got another shop estimate pending but you're right I could just do black tape ghetto job. The other shop is also likely to come in at the same price, how else will they make profits ? |

Imagine something that works like duct tape but doesn't leave glue behind, is easier to tear pieces off, can be removed without damaging anything, yet is somehow stronger than duct tape. My Toyota got nailed by a driver changing into my lane and with the whole parts situation, I had to affix my front bumper to the car while waiting on parts and I had that thing buttoned up good enough to drive on the highway. |
