Bahrain starting grid

Well- looks like Ferrari has a car to beat finally. Be nice if Mercedes can keep right with Ferrari and Red Bull so we can have a 3 way fight. Max and the Red Bull is solid with a good engine. I have to snicker at Bottas being in 6th, AHEAD of Russell and right behind Hamilton in an Alfa... K Mag - out for a season or 2 and whack - qualified WELL ahead of his teammate and Haas has to be breathing a sigh of relief with what looks to be a strong car. Now - if K Mag can keep it in the top 10. Alpine is decent it looks like - both cars in the top 11. Ricciardo is well behind and pretty much expected with brake issues and his Covid issues and not getting track time. Hopefully he can move up in the race eventually. Aston Martin is NO WHERE - does not help the engine is probably down on power compared to Ferrari and RB.

It should be a really interesting first race of the season, we will get to see if Ferrari or RB have life in the engines. At least by P3 Mercedes got the porpoising issue at least somewhat solved it looks like.

It is great to see Ferrari competitive again. A three way battle for the title would be great, so lets hope it continues. Heck of a qualifying for Bottas and KMag. Would love to see both score points tomorrow.

Bahrain Race results....

A LOT to unpack in this race. I am going to go point by point on the things I saw and I found interesting...

1. Ferrari - looks to have the better engine this year at least it LOOKS that way. Max could not make a pass stick, no matter how hard he tried.

2. DRS - pretty strong but I don't think over powering.

3. It looks like cars cam be behind each other without making the car behind slide all over.

4. BUT - the brakes. Looks like a team or 2 need to work on brake ducts to make sure they are getting enough air and not just Williams. Max was beating his brakes up with his lunged from wayyyyyyyy back in T1.

5. It also looks like, with the cooler tire blankets - the drivers have to drive a bit more cautiously out of the pits. Going to be interesting if they do get rid of the blankets and how much harder it will be to drive on them early.

6. New engines seems to be pretty reliable not withstanding the late fire which brought in some late race fun with pit stops.

7. Mercedes engine needs work - Mercedes powered cars did not do well in general.

8. I really like some of the liveries - Williams is just great but Mercedes looks odd with the silver and bright yellow for Hamilton. I think I liked those black a lot better.

0 could add in more but I will stop there. It was a decent race and we learned some things about the designs and potential whose engines might be better right away. And to that end I have to say - K MAG in the POINTS! Solid race for K Mag - they were stupid for letting him go but I understand they "needed" the money (Haas has recently said the team is secure on funding without Mazepin). If that was the case before - Schumacher would have learned more from K Mag than Mazepin. Schumacher got schooled by K Mag and I hope that K Mag can help him out with setup.

Bottas has a terrible start but things eventually fell his way for a top 6 finish! Russell didn't beat Hamilton and the only time he was ever in front was after a Hamilton pitstop. Bottas finished WELL ahead of Zhou but at least Zhou grabbed the last point.

Ricciardo and Norris had rough race - they have a lot of work to do. Williams are pulling themselves up the grid and that is VERY good to see.

Mercedes were gifted the 2 extra spots to get 3rd and 4th but they have work on the engine and car to do but they kept their noses clean and reaped and rewards late. Russell did well in the race...

Red Bull - engine is strong, brakes need more cooling (and so does Max) but it shows they will not be the next Mercedes and walk away with the championship. Losing both cars late - and according to a rumor - not enough fuel was added (I wonder which engineer(s) is/are going to lose their job(s)). At least the engine (according to rumor) did not blow up - the only bright side. They can't do t his again if they want to be in the hunt at the end of the year. Max needs to keep his head cool - way to early to lose your head and he did it multiple times. Hopefully Horner gets in Max's head and gets him to listen to the engineers.

Ferrari - congrats on having an engine and aero in one package - it has been a long time coming.

It was great to see some actual on track battles for the lead, which has been pretty rare the last number of years, though Max had to back off after a few of the back and forth passes with Leclerc.

Ferrari clearly has their engine woes from the past iteration figured out, which also helped make Haas and Alfa very competitive. Great result by both KMag and Bottas. They might be battling for the best of the rest championship all year.

McLaren has to get their act together. I was hoping they'd be battling with Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes. I'm sure they'll get it figured out, though probably not by this weekend.

I like the silver Mercedes livery better than the black of the last few years. I also like that Max chose to put the number 1 on his Red Bull. The Williams livery does look great. Alpha Tauri is still kind of meh.

Red Bull has some work to do this week to figure out what the heck happened to both cars. You're right, that gifted Mercedes some extra points which could be key late in the year. I'm sure they'll figure out why they're slow to start the season.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez both retired with problems believed to be related to the fuel pump. It would not be the first time in this still early Formula 1 season that teams have problems with the fuel pump. Ted Kravitz reports this in Sky Sports' after-race show .

The fuel pump in the premier class of motor racing is a standardized component."It's a common fuel pump, designed and supplied by an Italian company, don't read anything into that. It's a common part amongst all the teams" Kravitz explained in the broadcast

If it's a common part used by everyone, but both failed for Red Bull, you have to wonder what they did to "tweak" that standardized component. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It would certainly be better for them to have a fuel pump issue than effing up the fuel load with E10 which was an early rumor. I have not seen anything on if RB was able to give a fuel sample from the car... Maybe a bit of both.

Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez had to retire early during the Bahrain Grand Prix. Initially the problem seemed to be due to the fuel pump, a standard part of every Formula 1 car, but according to De Telegraaf this isn't true.

The medium has reportedly heard from various sources around the FIA and Red Bull Racing that the fuel pump was not the cause of the problem. The teams even had the opportunity to inspect it one day before the race and the Austrian racing team would have done so. At that time there was also nothing wrong with the part and after the race this would not have been the case.

Apparently - Bottas got massive wheel spin at the start of the race. Apparently - been a problem for both cars in preseason testing where 50% of the starts were ok - the other - not so much.
