Linksys → Bellsouth DSL + Linksys + Alcatel STH Settings ?

Bellsouth DSL + Alcatel STH. This combination works for a single Win98SE computer with a single NIC connected to the modem with VPN (per instructions in the Alcatel manual). So cabling and hardware are working. I am trying to go to DSL + BEFSR41 + STH using PPPoE. Used the free PPPoA client downloaded from Germany directly from the NIC to the modem. Also tried with the PPPoE software in the router. Same result in both cases, the LAN, TX lights flash of few times but no PPPoE connection is established. I get the message "Cannot connect to the PPPoE server".
I tried many different combinations and settings. Currently the STH br1 (bridge) entry in the phone book is set to VCI=8, VPI=35, forwarding. The br1 is fourth entry in the bridge category of the phonebook. Since you have the same hardware configuration and Bellsouth DSL, could you please post or email me the settings for the computer, router, and modem.
