I wish you could get self installation. Other than initial contact I did not have to talk to anyone. The hardest part was to get filters installed in certain areas of my home, other than that - Peachy. I can't imagine why any company would want to send someone with appointment - must cost them (Ameritech) a load of cash just in operation and provisioning, not to mention work force. I hope it will work out for you. Nothing, in my opinion, tops a RoadRunner in UNreliability and INcompetence (I had to reinstall software every 2-3 days, not to mention security issues).
