Beta 4.0.3?

Has any one else received a notice for pre-selection to the 4.0.3 BETA?

I received one ........... but I'm not sure I want to risk losing my e-mail addresses... too much hassle getting everyone updated with a new one. Other than that, I'm game !!!!

Just curious, I was wondering what the changes are in the beta software. Or are they just trying to get one that works?
Any info on this yet?

Got mine too. Doesn't sound like they want to do much for us, other than give us first shot at screwing up our systems and first shot at the new cutting edge software. No free service. Don't think I want to risk losing all the email addresses either.

I got mine also. I am willing to give it a try. I don't really want to de-commission and lose my email but maybe we won't have to do that.

Sorry Red, we don't think of you as a stepchild!! Probably because you went back to the drs.

Hello braish and everyone,

I haven't gotten one from them yet! If they aren't offering any kind of compensation of any sort here is my opinion. Which I posted in the original thread by Petdude (Beta Testers Needed).

I think the least they can do offer free service or something to compensate us. Considering what they may or may not ask you to do on top of giving them a minimum of 8 hrs a week over a 4 - 5 week period. That translates to a minimum of 40 to 48 hrs of my time. Since I make a make better than $30.00 an hour that doesn't translate to a very good investment of my time. Heck if you only made $10.00 an hour that doesn't translate to a very good investment of your time. I certainly can find better things to do then give them free labor.

If they are willing to give some free service I might consider it. If not, then I wouldn't consider giving them the time of day. We pay them good money for the service why would anyone consider going to all that trouble and not get compensated in some fashion! Just because it's new I don't think so! We deserve better than that. Most of us here, I am sure have felt like dogs doing tricks in the circus or something to get these systems to work reasonably well.

If you have the time to blow, don't mind giving up at least 40 to 48 hrs or more of your time, have a high tolerance level for the some of the frustration the beta test may or may not cause and not be compensated in some fashion be my guest!

Just my .02 cents worth!

Best Regards,
Chris

I believe I will pass also. With all that has to be done to PROPERLY test the beta, at least we should get free service during the test period. I am still having problems getting the credit I was promised during the original beta program. I am supposed to get free service until June 30 and so far $83.39 has been charged to my card! Looks like better co-ordination is needed at Hughes.

I received the email as well, but I haven't decided yet. It will probably be no. The biggest issue I have with it is the possible loss of email. As much as DirecWay's mail service leaves to be desired, I need it -- I am way too dependent on it.

The second biggest issue (or maybe I have the 1st & 2nd reversed!) is possibly reformatting my harddrive. While I have done this (how many times?!) since having DirecWay installed in February, unfortunately my host is my PC -- with EVERYTHING that I do on it.

While time is certainly an issue, I do know that my almost-16-year-old computer-nerd-and-proud-of-it son would LOVE to get his hands on this, and probably even be pretty helpful.

Now if I was offered a DW4020 to ease some of that pain, I may reconsider...;)

Sandy

(Funny, as I'm typing this I'm trying to retrieve my email, one account is fine, the other:

"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, blah, blah, blah..."

AGAIN!!!

(Well, in the time it took me to preview this a few times before posting, it failed 3 times then worked...?!)
