needforspeed59 posted : I have a question regarding these line quality tests: It looks like you have zero packets dropped in the top portion. Then there is an address where it shows 4% packets dropped. Which is it? Zero or 4%. Is 4% all that bad? That means 96% are getting through, correct?
--
I survived for days in the desert on nothing but food and water.

MrPsycho6 posted : SOLUTION:
!!!!!!!!

This actually worked!

I was experimenting with my modem and got this idea. Some friends of mine (who live in my neighborhood) and have cox hsi are running just fine. One of them got about the 3mbit barrier when I told him to speed test yesterday.

I was thinking back to when all the problems started.. about sunday, after I had to disconnect the cable wire, and it took an hour for them to reassign my ip address.

I wasn't sure if the slowing was related, because I didn't notice it till the next day.

So I thought, maybe if I can get them to reassign me a new IP address, I might get into that section of people with no problems. I disconnected my modem's power, then reconnected it. I went online, and I still had the same Ip and same problems. So I turned off my pc again, disconnected my modem, and left it off for a good 40 minutes.

I just turned it on. I checked, and my IP is still the same. HOWEVER, I RAN A SPEED TEST!:

2002-06-22 16:58:56 EST: 1918 / 289
Your download speed : 1918971 bps, or 1918 kbps.
A 234.2 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 289477 bps, or 289 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

Its not that good. Only 1918, but hey its better than 108!

*****
If at all possible I'd like someone here to run a speed test, and tell me if their problem is fixed. If not, then try the solution I mentioned above. IT is possible that all this is a coincidence, and they have really fixed the problem.

I'm going to run a quality line test and get back to you all!!!

I hope things DO get better for everyone out here. I know there is a guy in Atlanta that has been talking to the engineers in Phoenix about our problems. Whether or not anything comes out of it, is still to be seen. But, its nice to know someone up the chain of command is helping resolve the issues. Bill Beesley Director, Commercial Network Operations is the man spear heading a look into the problem. If you would like, goto the news groups (cox.internet.discussion.phoenix) and post your troubles there, Mr. Beesley frequents those cox groups and does help people. Give it a shot!
