Signed up today what to expect?

I signed up today for cable internet service bought the modem, router, and switch. My family is a big family. The tech might come over saturday unlikely not. This is my first home broadband service so I would like it to run smoothly. I heard of some horror stories of ATT and hoping to god they are not true in my area.

I've found 95% of the time I'm happy and have a great, fast, reliable Internet service.

And if you ever think your service isn't doing good, switch to 26.4 net for a day, sure seems to shed some light on ATT's service when I do that

Might want to look around the ATTBI reviews on here and see how service is in your area. Some areas have horrible pings, while others coast along fine.

On a whole, I think the service depends mostly on how the local technicians maintain the plant, how the installer did the job, and the general knowledge base and ability of the technical people in the field. If it is anything like the system I work for, get ready for some of the best web service you have ever had. There are a lot of smart, talented, and very resourceful technicians out there in the field. I would be optomistic. Remember to that there are some idiots out there too. Be a consumer and expect good service. You should get good service. It's why you signed up right?

I hope you get better service then we get in the Sacramento, CA area. AT&T's service has been severely oversold in this area, and the infrastructure can't handle the load. The Great Sacramento area added 400,000 broad band subscribers last year. Not all of them AT&T cable.

Latency (ping times) can fluctuate wildly and generally be too high for gaming. Loss of sync is a guaranteed daily. Generally 3 or 4 times during peak hours 5PM to 11PM.
Everyone I know in the area who has the service has the same problems.

Customer Service is almost non-existent with AT&T. In the online "Chat with us" you get the run around. For the supposed "install", the tech showed 3 hours late,(should be thankful he showed at all, considering what others who post here have gone through) handed me the modem at the door, a sheet of paper with the network settings, and left. Guess he was tired. It was 8:00PM on a Friday when he showed.

There are a few good techs with AT&T who frequent this forum.

In my opinion the biggest problem with AT&T is the lack of integrity among its corporate leadership.

If I had another option for broadband I'd take it. I'm about 500 ft too far for DSL, from that other corporate dungheap SBC/PACBELL. And Winfirst went bankrupt just as they were starting to run fiber-optic on my block.

Well I live in a city with 50000 people. There are 2 cable providers in my area. Charter and ATT. I can't get Charter but I can get ATT. ATT is so new in my area there are no reviews in my area. I should have none of that overcrowding problem that other people in big cities have. If I do I will just switch to DSL they are both in my area,
