RT Listing...I was reading that in the Joliet, Illinois area they were one of the first ones to turn up about like 4 or 6 new RT's for the Illinois area. Could anyone check the status of them out there? If you are wired to the CO already do you stay wired to it or do they put you on a RT now? Erik |

There is no public list of RT's available. quote: If you are wired to the CO already do you stay wired to it or do they put you on a RT now?
It's only a possibility if your location has both options available. The only way to really know what's available to you is to call 1-800-TEAMDATA and ask them. |

Is this a list of all RTs? What I'd like to see in this forum is a current list of RTs that are DSL-enabled. |

Nice list... Curious about something though. Why would they put an RT less than (3) blocks from a CO ?? I can give you specifics if you'd like.
There's two more that I'm curious abot also. They are in the middle of city blocks and they'd look *really* out of place where they are noted.
For what it's worth, all three are labeled as "pgpls". |

pair pgain plus, ameritech utilizes +4 and +6, really desperate way to conserve cable pairs. Let me just say that you won't get much speed on dial-up if you are on one of these . |

In the context of this and other BBR forums, when we talk about RT's we usually mean those that are DSL capable. By the end of the year, the number of RT's that will be DSL capable in Illinois probably will not exceed 100. And, there is no accurate list available to the public that identifies which ones those are. Also, as others have pointed out, the list you found contains a number of DLC systems which will never carry DSL. Only Litespan systems that have been specifically modified can carry ADSL. |

The RT supporting my telephone service has a Lightspan2, but my Ameritech DSL order was cancelled because of DLC. Does this mean that I might eventually have a chance, if the Lightspan2 in my local RT becomes DSL-enabled?
Also, what is a "dms1u"? This also appears in the listing for my local RT.
Thanks! |

nice list.............too bad its way outta date (even though it shows updated June this year.) There is alot of RT's listed that not providing DSL and alot more that are active that are not even on the list, as manx said.
Also all the CLLI codes are incorrect...at least all the Connecticut one are wrong.
How do I know this...easy....one of my first jobs in PRONTO was to establish standard naming convention for remotes here in CT.
I would guess the Connecticut list to be at least 1 yr out of date. |

SLC96 is an old DLC system. I'm sorry, it won't support DSL. |

Hall, sometimes DLC systems are installed in existing non-telco buildings. Would this explain your situation? |

Two of the locations could *only* be people's homes... All utilities are run in our alleys also, so there's little to no room for "boxes" of much variety. Could they be pole-mounted ?? |

Pairgain Pairspan systems, commonly called UDCs, are, in fact, frequently mounted on poles. Later DLC systems such as Minplex, PG Plus, and even PG flex are also mounted on poles. I suspect that's what they are. |

Hmmm, what would happen if my line is switched over to one of these ?? I've got line-share DSL right now... One of the locations *could* be in a spot that my line runs "through" it. The CO is on a road perpendicular to mine and only 6-7 blocks away. Logic says my line runs down the alley, turns right, and goes a short distance to the CO. Of course, logic doesn't always apply when talking about running cable ! |

If your facilities move to PairGain you will not be able to get DSL. As far as PG DLC locations, I have seen them mounted right next to a regular NID on a house. |

I suppose I shouldn't worry about things like this... Then again, the big evil telco monopolies could put the CLECs out of business if they move perfectly good, working lines to something like this, now couldn't they ?!?!
I have to commend A'Tech in my case though. The week before my cross-connect was to get done, our phone service went out. I went in the alley and saw a tech and asked him if he was repairing my line (he was quite a few houses away so I didn't assume it was for me). He in fact was and asked if I was getting DSL. I said yes, and he told me they were switching me to a "good, clean pair" -- on their own !! Apparently someone at the CO switched us over before the guys in the field were able to and that's why our voice service went out. |

The telco may have put one of your neighbors second lines on a DLC to free up a copper pair for you. That's not uncommon. Sometimes it works in your favor. |

nice list but where does it show the deployement dates. also the RT that I am intrested in (Bensenville IL serving Itasca) does say 'ltsp2' does it mean that I will be able to get DSL soon (atech people have cancelled my order about 16 times and last time they said that the RT and CO are connected via fiber so I cant get DSL) If DSL is not available they I may be going with WISP ? |

DSL is not available there. After sixteen canceled orders I would've thought you'd have come to the same conclusion. Pronto won't be rolled out in your area anytime in the near future so if you're chompin' at the bit to get some sort of high speed access I'd look into a WISP. |

Isn't that *normal* ?? The DSLAM is in the RT. Once you've reached the RT, you don't care what's on the "other side"... |

I think the deal is that the RT is not yet ready (DSLAM is not installed or something) I dont know if i should wait for 6 more months or no. May be A teach (for DSL) or ATT (for Cable) will move their behinds and fill this unserviced area |

Project Pronto is the SBC term for making RTs DSL-capable. While this has been going on for a long time in other states, it was on hold in IL. RT-based DSL only recently (about a month ago) started in IL. Just a few RTs are currently enabled. With the current economy, it may take a while to see widespread deployment.
My guess (and it's ONLY a guess - I have NO inside info), is that it could take several months (maybe a few years!) before pronto makes it to your neighborhood.
If you are covered by a WISP, that might be your best bet for now. It may be more expensive than ADSL, but it will probably be cheaper and faster than your other options (IDSL or satellite). |

actually the WISP option is not that bad . For $50 /month (2 years contract and $99 initial fees) but the max data download is 25 GIG /month. also I am in a town home and the association is a pain for installation of dishes for it. |

Clarification: There is no DSLAM in a Pronto RT. There were some proposals waaaaay back in the Rhythms and Northpoint days to put small "pizza box" DSLAMS in the old RTs, cabinets and B-Boxes for SDSL but that was (1) wildly uneconomical and (2) not feasible on a widespread basis. But those were the good old days before dot-com turned into dot-bomb.
The Lightspan Pronto RTs accept line cards which have ADSL & POTS functionality, and the DSL data from those goes back to the CO on a different OC48 fiber connection than the POTS is riding on, popping out at the "OCD", which can be thought of as a big meeting and trading place for CLEC data from these RTs.
Two major things have to happen to get DSL via Pronto: The RT must be DSL-capable and your CO must have the OCD installed. The latter is the big holdup in most places in Illinois right now since they are expensive buggers and most of ours got shipped off to faraway places like Indiana and Michigan while the ICC and SBC were throwing sand at each other. |

Looks like the OCD is also a hold-up in Ohio (KRLDOH25), I've apparently got RT's that are DSL capable (Been there for over a year now), but a CO that hasn't seen any new equipment in a long while.
Must mean that my CO is a second-rate market, and with the ICC vs SBC pissing contest over (all participants usually end-up all wet), won't likely see any upgrades in the near future (Priority now going to Illinois)...
At least the modem works... And I have DSL at work... |
