Re: Does ADSL signal travel for 28,900 ft?

Mine's not bothering me at the moment (a modification and RFI filter took care of that) but I got mine to quite cycling by making a little tube for the photocell to look through that blocked light from the lamp. There aren't any "good" screw-in units. Just not enough room in that thing to do it right, evidently. I ended up installing an outboard photocontroller on my driveway light, and that works flawlessly.

Well, I got a new job to take care of. Will work with the neighbor on eliminating the flicker and place another order for DSL service.
Thanks!

If you are really that far from the CO, you might have trouble getting them to take your (re-)order.

Assuming they will take it though, here are some alternate suggestions if you can't find a photocell that will work:

1. If the light is incandescent and is on a switch, replace it (the switch) with a timer-switch. These are available at most home centers (Menards/Home Depot/Lowes/etc). Cost: Probably about $20 or so.

2. Or, replace the switch with an X-10 controlled switch and use a timer to turn it on and off. For this approach, you can buy everything you need at Radio Shack for less than $40. It works best if you plug the X-10 timer into an outlet on the same phase as the light switch.

3. If they don't really want/need the light on all night, and it is an incandescent bulb in the 60-100 W range, buy a Philips IQ-bulb with the 6-hour-on/18-off cycle. These bulbs are great. You just screw it in to the socket and apply power for the first time at the correct time of day. The bulb will light and stay light for 6 hours. Then it will automatically turn off. Then it waits 18 hours and turns on again (this is 24 hours after you first applied power). It continually repeats this cycle every 24 hours until power is lost - at which time you would have to reset it. Cost: Maybe $2 for one bulb? These used to be available at Menards and Home Depot - not sure if they still are or not.

In my opinion option 1 is best, 2 next, and 3 last.

Speakeasy a few days ago said they would take me back (I mentioned the neighbor's light killing the DSL and the fact that it could be worked around). Also ASI said this morning that they would take me back (if I went ahead with new order, DSL would be active on 7/16), but we all have been thru situations where one rep says one thing and the other says something quite opposite, haven't we?
Time will tell.
Since A-tech is $30/mo and SE is $50, I will try with SBC first.
Yeah, the timer on the light circuit sounds like a reasonable option. Been considering a motion-activated lights as well.
Thanks
