NY STATE THREATENS MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR FINE ON VZ

I wonder if Verizon's improved service the last 2 weeks is a result of this threat of fine that became public today? I've had 2 weeks of solid 500k throughput here in queens.

Probably not. It's cheaper to pay the fines than fix things, they've been doing that for years.

I wasn't able to access the Crain's page but I believe that most of the fines come from failures in the POTS end not the DSL. These fines are the result of an agreement between the New York PSC and New York Telephone entered into in 1994 running through 2002.

Most likely your right. DSL is considered a "best effort" service. Basically, that means they can do just about anything they want and get away with it. Just have to say that they are trying to fix it. No guarantees.
