Yes. 5 gigabytes down, 1 gigabyte up. loosely enforced. If you go to 6 gb, were not going to say anything. If you go to 40 gb? Something will be said. Lippy handles all that, she'll probably reply to this with her own comments. |

I assume you're referring to traffic transfer limits - we've always had a limit of 1GB up and 5GB down although it's not been enforced in the past. Limits will be modified (dunno what yet) and I've been enforcing them as necessary to curb extreme extreme usage. |

With all the talk about changing the 5/1 transfer limits on residential accounts, I haven't seen any comment on what changes might be coming for commerical users. I use a SOHO package... and while the 20gig download limit is just fine, I wouldn't mind seeing an increase in the 2gig upload ceiling.
Plus, as an aside, let me just say how happy I am with Cogeco and the commercial tech support. I won't bother ragging out on my previous HSE supplier <...ahem, hint, hint>, but as far as I'm concerned, you folks rock! [text was edited by author 2002-07-21 17:47:27] |

Hi Advocat, glad to see you're happy with the service There is talk of changing limits on all both residential and commercial packages. |

Yes we're all actively engaging in discussions on the limit question. We'll let you know when we have a definite answer. Thanks re: CS server.. hehe. Yes, I love CS but the cheating is kinda out of hand. |

I'm considering choosing cogeco because of the sympatico caps. I heard that they won't mind (@ cogeco) if were to download 6 gb. But if I were to download 50 gb they'd be angry. What would they do charge me, cancel my service, arrest me ? Also what if I downloaded 10 gb or 15 gb or 20 gb. What exactly happens ? |

Basically the whole process is in a state of flux at the moment. I've got no hard timeframes however it appears that we will have a billing and customer accessible monitoring type systems online before the end of the year, limits and tiers are still being discussed.
In the interim I'm monitoring severe usage or usage in a specific area when asked which is usually in response to multiple service degradation issues in an area that *should* be fine. From that point it's really a case by case basis dependent on factors such as how high the usage is, previous abuse reports, level of service degradation, etc etc etc.
Basically if you're not leaving P2P apps open 24/7, not excessively downloading files (as I mentioned in the Canadian Broadband forum you can download 47 copies of The Beatles White Album (at 320 bitrate) and still be under 5GB) and ensuring your system is secure then odds are you'll never hear from me. If the usage is truly excessive I might temporarily suspend connectivity, if there are repeat occurrences showing a lack of attempting to comply with these policies then we might discuss permanent disconnection.
If you're not doing anything wrong you have little to worry about, if you're looking for a new ISP to transfer Gigs and Gigs of traffic then maybe look elsewhere.
Make sense? |
