Speedmonkey posted : Man!!! some of you guys are crazy, reading these posts it sounds like some of you think AT&T wants to "screw" you by not offering service. I can tell you as an installer for AT&T that yeah there are many times we end up being late to appointments. None of us want to be late, and we dont think its ok to be late but it happens. In the morning you get a clip with X number of jobs. All it tells us is what services you ordered, it doesnt tell us anything other than if its a RECONNECT "which means the house has had cable before not necessarily the customer", NEW HOUSE CONNECT, or DISCONNECT. We never know what we are going to run into, on a rare occasion we will go out to a house and all we have to do is connect the line into the tap, tag the line and connect your cable boxes to your TV. other times we go out there and have to replace aerial drops, or have to mid-span the drop since we arent allowed to cut cross property lines with our cable or to bring it to the other side for electrical safety reasons, sometimes we get to a house and rewire the cable to meet new electrical codes. In some areas they dont have 2 way systems and he have to install telephone jacks so we can get the older digital cable boxes running. We try to run these cables in attics and crawl spaces to avoid them being eyesores and many times the person living there doesnt have an idea where the attic or crawlspace access is. What might seem like an easy install for the customer might be a troubleshooting nightmare for a tech, i.e. rodents chewing the line. Here is an example that happens way to often for new homes is that the construction people run a line from the cable tap to the side of the house and then later pour a concrete driveway over it or the landscape people come out doing their thing and accidently cut lines that now need to be replaced. What I am saying is we just have no idea what we are getting into at a job until we get there. Not that it is right to show up late but the fact of life is that it will always happen to every tech.

And if any of you that frequent this board and rightfully moan and complain, and dutifully bad mouth and trash AT&T and their techs ever did this job you would see how fast the snowball effect starts rolling. And you couldn't do it any differently than us "Morons"

But to help you all out a little, here is some advice, A tech is least likely to show up late on his first job of the day so schedule your installations for an 8-10 appointment.

I have heard from various people that after their install have been done, they've been doing great "look for a dude by the name of goofyguy or something like that in Falls river, MA" (if you want to hear bitchin' about service, talk with ppl in MA, that's about all they do on a daily basis! lol)
anywho...

But now that someone showed up several hours later for your appointment/"must-do" are you really wanting to wait for another moron/tech to decide to come again? Sorry.. that's my opinion when it comes to no one showing up a second time for an install.

Whatever you choose, hopefully something good will come out of it. It's not fair seeing customers like yourself holyearth, that get the fun of being screwed over in the first initial stage "installation" then later down the road maybe with your service... but the service isn't all that bad most of the time in the Atlanta area. So if you decide on staying with the company that's giving you a huge run around, all the best to ya

anyways, ever need a hand with anything, give me a shout here, or IM me here as well.

take care
cctech0

Disconnected the DSL and hooked up the modem via a supplied splitter. Called and registered my MAC address. Took about 2 hours for the MAC address to activate. There was no fees at all related to the move, and the previous month that I had not payed yet, had been written off.
--
Secure Technology Web Hosting - Your Hosting Resource

anon posted : just a few tips for installation appointments and service appointments. make the appointment for one of your days off, appointments can be made any day of the week, since most cable companies are open 7 days a week. i really don't understand why people have to take time off. when they give you a "time frame" for an appointment either 8-10 or 10-1 etc.. usually this time frame is for when the tech will arrive there, NOT how long the actual job will take. installations or service calls could either take 5 min or 5 hours, depending on what needs to be done.

Holyearth posted : Well, AGAIN one of the giant companies has displeased me. Today, the initial tech who was suppose to come between 8:00 and 11:00 didn't show. So, he calls me at 1:50 and leaves a message saying he needs directions. I call him back at 2:00 (10 minutes later) and he's already in Norcross. He now says that he won't come out here. I call AT&T tech support 3 different times. I spoke to numerous techs and one messed up supervisor by the name of Melissa. This lady tells me that she'll do her best to get someone out tomorrow and she'll call me back. Guess what? She doesn't call back. So, I'm wondering...why is she not calling back. Maybe because she made an appointment for AUGUST 11th! That's 10+ days more of waiting for me.

Man, I know I have a short fuse, but what is happening to customer service? AT&T, Earthlink, and Bellsouth (ESPECIALLY) have all given me the worst customer service ever. It's now what you'd expect from such a prestigious company. Well, now I don't know what to do. I have waited 3 months for DSL and half a month for AT&T.

If someone is reading this who works for AT&T and can help me out (seriously), I would definitely appreciate it. If they don't send someone out by Monday, my wife and I have decided to cancel.

I hope no one else in Atlanta experiences this...

Holyearth posted : Well, I called tech support 3 times. All they've done is put in a 'dispatch form.' One guy even put in an 'elevated dispatch form.' Both of which I never heard back from. The installer called me at 1:50 wanting directions. I called him back at 2:00 and told him that I was not available at 1:50 and that the window was clearly stated at 8:00 to 11:00 which is when I sat on my @$$. Well, he tells me that he's in Norcross now, and he can't come today. He says he doubts he can come tomorrow. Guess that means I'll have to wait till Monday. That's 3 more days.

On my third call, I spoke to a supervisor, and she also tells me that there's not much she can do. I don't like to hear 'not much I can do' from a supervisor. Especially when I am a NEW customer. How do they expect to keep me?

Anyways, for those of you wondering, this is my 3RD month trying to get some sort of high speed internet for college. The last 3 months, I tried to work out crap with Bellsouth (DSL) (line provisioning problem). That got nowhere. So, I guess the purpose of me posting this is not to whine, but to inform new customers of AT&T in the Atlanta area of what exactly to expect. As for me, whenever they do come out here, I better get good speeds with low pings. That's about the only thing that can keep me with them!

Appointment is missed.

You are paying for a service, it's broke, you gotta wait for them to come out, and you aren't getting paid, but they are. Therefore, you should be able to be paid for the time you wasted. This would stand up in small claims :)

mymegabyte posted : it can go either way... when I had my cable installed (4 years ago) there was over a 1 month wait just for the tech to come install it. But since then, I hear things have gotten better. Just a couple months ago I had to have a tech out... and they were half an hour early????? The time window was 11-3, they called at 10:15 said they were on their way, and were here at 10:30.
So in other words, just be patient, sometimes some calls take longer then others, but it would have been nice if they called you to tell you they would miss the time frame.

I'm not knocking the techs, but they can become very busy with all sorts of problems others may have. You have to remember that they are trying their best to help those they are installing for and some customers may keep the techs longer than the tech wanted to stay. I've had techs show up an hour early and sometimes a couple hours late.

Just my two cents...
--
First rule of fiber optics: you do not talk about fiber optics
