Upload Issues With Netgear FVS318I recently purchased a FVS318, but immediately after installing it I discovered that I could not upload. A bandwidth test at DSL reports produces a zero K upload result, and FTP file transfers fail to start.
I've also notice some funny behavior with traceroute not working correctly -- i.e. the first and last hop are missing and packet loss.
When I plug in my old Linksys router, everything works fine. So it can't be my connection, right? (I have DSL through Pacific Bell)
An employee who also has the router has reported he is experiencing the same trace route issue.
Has anyone experienced this behavior from this router model. I have always had good experiences with NetGear products, but I'm thinking of returning this. |

Yuup!!!!!!!!!Welcome to DSLreports.com buddy !!
Its the FVS318's funny firmware but there are some workaround being discovered so far, one of them is to set the MTU size of the computers NIC that does help in some cases when its DSL. Try that set the MTU size to 1362 and that probably should do it. Regards

Thanks -- Will TryThanks for your welcome and advice jj.
I will try and play around with the MTU settings. However, looking through the forums I've realized there seem to be quite a number of problems with this router model. Too bad really, since its just what a lot of small businesses and mobile workers (like myself) need. |

Re: Upload Issues With Netgear FVS318Best would be to reset the router first before reconfiguring it |

Yup!!! the FVS318 has some definite problems with PMTU discovery. I doubt even after setting the MTU thingy you might not be able to resolve this issue.
However also verify that the ping on WAN port is enabled (i.e., if you are trying to trace the route to the router itself). |

I'm wondering if Netgear just had some bad batches? I've got Pacbell and the supposedly problematic Efficient 5360-023 modem and a FVS318. No problems and they haven't been reset for 11 days. MTU is 1500 (the default) and I usually get 1000/115-ish speed on a 1500/128 plan. The only change from default is not using DHCP on my 3 LAN devices (2 PCs and an HP JetDirect) |

Na Na Na!!! I meant for the Path MTU, MTU can always be adjusted. The FVS318 supports that and is able to use the optimum MTU as defined by the line. Just that Path MTU sometimes (or is it all the times??? ) gives problems. For the similar reasons you would find that some uploads do not work through the routers. |
